Marvin Sliding Glass Door - Pine vs. Fir Interior
Comments (3)Awwww, Tedi0555, I was all set to choose the Pine. I am going to be painting the wood, and my installer (who's been installing Marvin for 20 years) said essentially the same as what Eastbay10 wrote above. Furthermore, the salesman for the Marvin sliding french door also told me pine would be the better choice if I am painting, and I know he stands to make less commission if I don't get the upgrade to fir! My installer and the salesman agreed that fir, as you said, is more durable and stable. However, they both said it would likely take 12-15 years for those differences from pine to become apparent. I figured that I don't know where I'll be 12-15 years from now; maybe in this house, maybe not. So I think I'll go with the pine. Anyone else want to convince me one way or the other? I am pulling the trigger on this order on Monday....See MoreMarvin sliding door puts out a match
Comments (4)Thank-you for the info. The installer is coming out in a couple of days but claims he put "a bead" of caulking under the sill and sealed it and doesn't know what else he could do. Also he said he didn't know if he would be able to pull off the siding strip he put across the bottom outside to do anything from that side. Why would he not be able to pull the siding strip off? Doesn't it sound like he is going to have to do that? Should I insist that he do that? Does "a bead" of caulking sound like enough caulk?...See MoreMarvin sliding patio door lock loose
Comments (4)I doubt that a loose thumb turn is evidence of tampering, I'd be more inclined to think it's just come loose. These kinds of things are often just press fitted together unless you see something like a screw head. Contact Marvin or your dealer about replacement options....See MoreMarvin Sliding French Door vs. Sliding Patio Door
Comments (4)I would call in another Marvin Dealer as if you were starting from scratch. Have them come in for a consult and a second estimate. Ask the question and see what he/she says. Even if you’re happy with the first dealer, dealers can charge differently so at least you’ll have something to compare apples to apples with. I actually have two appointments scheduled for Sunrise windows next week, but I’m not actually sure which dealer I’ll end up with. I have to say though both my mother and my sister had the french doors installed. They weren’t Marvins but they were extremely happy with that style....See MoreILoveRed
