VPN to watch the Olympics?

The Olympics are coming up -- YAY! -- and if we want to watch the CBC coverage of Canadian sports from the US, we need a VPN, right? Do we need to do it on each device, or is it for the household? How does this work? Anyone who can coach me?

VPN is device specific. That's the only one of your questions I can answer though.

You can usually pay for a VPN and use it on several devices, but it will have to be installed on each device.

Susan- that's great. I didn't realize the extent of her injury until I read the MSNBC article. I sure hope she can ski. My son had a deep muscle bruise and they can cause really long lasting issues. During a lacrosse game a player hit him on the thigh full force with the butt of his lacrosse stick. We had to rush him to the hospital that night when his thigh swelled up to twice it's size and turned wonderful shades of purple, blue, red. It was disgusting. They couldn't drain the fluid and blood because it was interspersed throughout the tissue of his quad. He was out for the rest of the season and for months he'd develop huge bruises. The scariest part was the orthopedic surgeon was concerned that he'd develop calcification in the muscle which could permanently limit his movement. I feel so sorry for her. After her injury in the last Olympics I'm sure she must be really devastated. Now that NBC is back you can even record Law and Order too.

They really raised the bar for the next opening in Vancouver, didn't they? The show was fantastic, I watched every minute of it, 4.5 hours, phew. lol And I wasn't surprised that NBC threw that shot of the Bush's into it, not at all, typical NBC. I was a tad bored too, watching all those teams marching in, not knowing when the US would arrive. I'm sure he knew about what time they would arrive and he was checking his watch to see how much longer they would have to wait until they could salute our team. I loved how the team all sought them out as they marched and waved wildly towards them. The sight of 2008 precision drummers will stay with me for a long time, as well as the maritime episode and the torch lighting, that was very cool. It was all good. China has a huge history to celebrate and they did themselves proud.

Funny, Gooster, because my DH was asking why the players were wearing those suits the other night. I had to explain it to him that they were actually playing on a beach, it was windy, and it was cool because it was winter in Rio. Just loved watching Michael Phelps get his 4th medal in the IM last night. And of course the 'other' Simone who tied for the gold in swimming. Had to cry right along with her. And of course with Ali Raisman and Simone Biles after their floor exercises. I'm gonna pay today for staying up for that.

VPN is a virtual private network - think of it like a restricted "tunnel" though which your internet activity passes. It's not open to being viewed by everyone who may be watching what you're doing on public wi-fi. A VPN is often used by people who tap into their company network from a laptop in remote locations. There are VPNs for mobile device internet use as well. I'm not familiar with the Verizon Hotspot.

Can I use it to watch CBC-TV on a smart TV, or even a regular TV? Or can I access only CBC-online content?

We use a Google Chromecast to cast to the TV from online. Or Amazon fire stick does the same thing. BUT, and this is important, you cannot use Chromecast from a VPN. My work laptop computer is on a VPN and I cannot cast from it.

You might be able to connect an HDMI cable from your computer to the TV.

VPN is a must have feature for every browser and net-based app no matter who developed it, so you have to use IMHO. I use it even when im chilling and watching netflix ( netflix vpn ) i highly recomend doing the same and never let your guard down.

DH tried to use a VISA gift card to sign up for VPN, and we cannot find a VPN that allows you to be anonymous that is not tied to an email address, etc. Somewhere you are still tracked to it. Any help?
