crown molding lighting enough light for a 14x18 room?
Comments (2)I had a room about that size that the full perimeter was fluorescents strips sitting on brackets behind angled cut strips of wooden valiances. They did both up light to the ceil and down light on the walls. The brackets were the key to make life easy and apparently made just for that purpose. Brackets used to be availble from thomas lighting many moons ago. Maybe still are from whomever may own thomas industies today. They would be fairly easy to make too....See More1940's, 10ft ceiling living room - need furniture help!
Comments (17)A couple of things strike me right away that throw the room off. First is the rug: It needs to be much much larger, and it should never be narrower than the couch. Second is to get longer curtains and hang them about a foot higher than they currently are. The art arrangement over the piano doesn't work; we'll remedy that. I like your fireplace and built ins. The shelves just need to be better styled--there are some good articles on Houzz to help with that, but basic rule is 1/3 books. 1/3 objects. 1/3 empty space--and I'd remove everything now over the mantel and use art. I suspect you can buy new furniture for no more than what it would cost to upholster yours, but that's a decision for you to make. I'll return later with a rendering of your room....See MoreNeed help with cathedral ceiling family room lights
Comments (11)After more looking around, I am liking the idea of putting two chandeliers, one on each side of the ceiling fan. I had electrician come today, and now waiting to get his estimate. In the meanwhile, like to get opinion and hear from those who have done anything like this. See the picture of my current ceiling fan (which I am going to replace). The ceiling height is 13 feet 10 inches. The room size is 21 x 15 feet (the length of ceiling beam is 15 feet). If I decide to go with this option, I will choose a ceiling fan without lights, and hang it with 5 feet downrod. The two chandeliers will be hung lower than the fan, at a midpoint distance on each side of the fan. Will this look cluttered? (Three things hanging from 15 feet ceiling beam). What size chandeliers will look right? If I decide not to choose this option, I am going to look for a ceiling fan with brighter lights, and add floor lamps for additional lights. Comments (1)Add 14 and 20 and you can comfortably have a 34” diameter light. Hang no less than 7.5 ‘ off the floor. Your ceiling is 10’ high, so, I don’t think you would get the effect of your inspiration photo. You could shop around for a a multi bulb pendant which can be adjusted to heigh needed,...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
