Question from a first-timer: concrete blocks vs. poured concrete
Comments (31)Anyone with any doubts about Superior Walls should use something else. I watched the setting of those for two houses before making my decision. The bolts installed when setting the panels hold the walls until the house floor structure is PROPERLY secured to the top of the walls. The basement floor slab keeps the walls from moving in at the bottom and if the builder chooses, the walls are secured to the slab to prevent outward movement for daylight basements. The backfill prevents outward movement at the bottom. Thinking things through from a technical perspective is helpful. Going on now with 12 years with my Superior Walls and am perfectly pleased. Concrete block probably comprises the majority of basement foundation construction and it is the poorest choice in my opinion. But that is not to say that it is a bad choice-- definitely not the best....See MoreHow to remove dried adhesive from unfinished wood floors?
Comments (11)I had a bathroom project a while ago, I took up the laminate and put down tile. After the laminate came up, the whole floor was covered with the glue they use when laying it, it was like hard plastic. I had at the time researched some ways/products to use and came up with KRUD KUTTER, I know you can get it at either Home D or Lowes and I think you can even now get it at Wally world. I used it full strength, poured it on, left it (dont remember how long) came back with a putty knife and it was all gooey and soft, came right up.. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. another example of what I've used it for. I had a perpetual haze on my laminate wood floors (most likely from a build up of cleaning products etc. caught one cleaning lady using mop and glow on it, ugh) anyway, it would never stay shiny and clean looking. I had tried several things and finally tried the KK, again, full stength but I didn't leave it very long. came back with a plastic spatula/turner and literally scarped off a yellow film. It did not appear to hurt my floors, and the haze was forever gone, (now I only use vinegar and water). Might be worth a try? Well, I dont know if it can hurt to try it, Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with this product and have no information on how it might work or affect your floors :) I think it's a great product with many uses and just thought I'd mention it....See MoreHow about poured concrete counters?
Comments (35)biner, We are planning on doing concrete countertops. Can I ask you a couple questions? What was the sealer you used? We really don't want lots of exposed aggregate. We were kind of hoping for more of a honed granite/oiled soapstone look. When you first took them out of their mold, were they all one color? Do you have any pics of pre-ground slabs? If you don't want to expose aggregate, what grit would you start with? I did buy the Cheng book, and the video, but he doesn't really address if you don't want to grind them down. Are they not as strong if you don't expose the aggregate by grinding? I was kindof hoping to get away with just hand sanding with pads, then sealing. Thanks for all your info, I am LOVING the pics. I *think* we can do this. We are also debating the whole pour in place vs. mold. Decisions, decisions!! S...See MoreRemove or seal concrete basement floor saturated with cat urine
Comments (21)Not sure if you have solved your cat urine issue yet? I wanted to give you a recipe that will eliminate the urine and the odor. It may have already been posted but here it is anyway. 1 (16) ounce bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide 1 (tsp) baking soda a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid like Dawn or Palmolive pour the peroxide into a clean container, add the baking soda and the dishwashing liquid, stir very gently to dissolve the baking soda. Pour onto stained area and leave it alone for 24 hours. This solution is the Best and most effective I have ever seen or used. If you can get ahold of a black light, you can turn it on and the urine areas will glow. After you use the above recipe and leave it for 24 hours, if you turn the black light on, the stains are gone and so is the odor. Give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the results. Thats it. You can double tripple or quadruple this recipe for very large areas....See MoreSJ McCarthy
