Arizona doesn't observe DST and that always confuses my elderly relatives in other states.

I wish when we change that It would stay that way! I absolutely hate it getting dark at 5:00!

I don't think you're "one of the few" at all, I think it's rather popular.

I enjoy summertime in the northern parts of Europe, especially the Scandinavian countries, where evening sunlight is even longer, from one to many more hours later than what I experience in my not too northern part of the US. If the Mason-Dixon line were extended to the Pacific, I'd be south of it.

I agree with phoggie and others, let's change to DST and then never change back. I love having that 'extra' hour of daylight at the end of the day.

I don't know which would be worse in winter, dark until 9am but light until 6pm, or dark at 5pm and light at 8am (as it is here now). I think I prefer earlier light and earlier sunset. However, I do recall, when I lived in San Diego, how early dawn was. I was working night shift and remember the sky starting to lighten between 3:30-3:45 am in summer.

The differences in length of day and sunrise/sunset between various regions of the USA makes it a very difficult question.

Stay the way it is. No change is perfect for me.

I prefer DST but a simple solution would be to just change by 1/2 hour and leave it that way.

Just pick a time and stick with it! I hate losing my hour of sleep. Hated leaving home for work in the dark!

I live in an area that once was in CST. Sometime in the 50's, they managed to change it to EST as they thought it was "important" to be on the same time as the NYStock Exchange. This means that it's DARK here in the morning for much of the year. If I had my druthers, I'd rather get up when it's daylight, even if evening comes an hour earlier. I hate getting up when it's pitch dark outside. One thing my late husband and I liked about our winters in Maine, was it was light when he walked over to the dining hall for breakfast at about 7AM. Yes, it WAS getting dark at 4PM, but heck who cared - it was winter outside!

Another misconception: DST benefits everyone. I've had jobs where it made a difference and yes I enjoyed the extra evening light sometimes. However I didn't appreciate having to go to bed an hour or two before dark when I needed to get up at 2am. Overall I used to say just make it an hour or two and make it permanent. But really, Americans like to complain. Period. They'd complain about not having DST if it was abolished. They complain that the kids have to go to school in the dark. They complain that the Martians are invading. I'm retired now. I don't really care about DST. It has no significant impact on my life and truth be told, it really doesn't have a SIGNIFICANT impact on anyone's life either. I have far greater things to trouble me! :)

Me? I'm just happy that we are past the winter solstice. Now that the shortest day has past every day forward is one day closer to spring. Winter is my least favorite season. I don't care what the clock says. Never bothered me one way or the other.

I don't understand what the problem is. I love DST. I love that it's still light out at 11 at night and we can enjoy a little longer time outside. As for that extra hour: doesn't anyone ever lose an hours sleep? Or sleep in an extra hour? I don't understand how that effects people. I travelled to The Netherlands thinking the 8 hour time difference would kill me, but it didn't affect me at all. Coming home was another story, but really: it's an EIGHT hour difference. One hour? Never bothered me at all.

There is an almost perpetual gap between my expectations as to
how things should be and the way things actually are. This
space, or divide, causes me a considerable amount of discomfort,
which I try to alleviate through the use of repetitive thoughts,
as well as spoken and written words. This activity is called
"complaining." The fact that it rarely accomplishes anything,
other than exacerbate my irritation, does not keep me from
engaging in it. Furthermore, it appears that buried deep within
my psyche is the firmly held conviction that complaining is
therapeutic - even though experience shows again and again that
it's not. In other words, I have a false belief that appears to
be immutable, which drives me to take an action that only makes
matters worse... and I like it. My only consolation is the
knowledge that I come from a long line of complainers. One of
my fondest childhood memories is looking up at the adult
relatives gathered around the kitchen table, the men smoking
Pall Malls, the women smoking Newports, everyone eating smoked
fish, and all of them talking over each other, loudly bitching
and moaning about pretty much everything. I remember that a
rant would often end with the resigned, self-deprecating,
seemingly rhetorical question, "Oh, well, who am I to complain?"
Well, these many years later, it turns out it's not rhetorical.
And I now know the answer. This is my birthright.

Who am I if I don't complain?
