DD1 has set the wedding date, we've secured the location, she's found her dress and is finalizing a caterer. We've been busy finding great things for the decor, and I found a gal who has just started a little home business renting decor items for weddings & parties. I figure it'll cost me a lot less to rent picture frames for the photo booth, and twinkle lights and linens than to buy them and then be stuck with them.

The theme is bohemian/Indian. I'm going to set up lounge areas using those pop up canopies that will be draped with silky fabrics, loads of pillows and romantic chanedeliers. We're going to have only 6 tables (8 seaters) to encourage mingling-since there won't be a sit down dinner. We're going tapas style with the food, and it'll all be vegetarian, but no one will miss meat with the menu we've chosen.

I just found what I think will be my dress, and now have about 10 million crafty things I need to work on! Saturday i'm going to the growers market to get in touch with flower growers, I'm hoping to use dahlias and star gazer lillies in the informal floral arrangements on the tables.

We're FINALLY getting moving on this! Her fiance had a bout with cancer earlier this year, so it kind of put things on hold. But he's doing better now, and she's been bitten by the bridal bug.

I am in Z:4 and surprised that Z:5 has such a late last frost date. Our last frost date is mid May with many waiting until May 31st to plant out tender annuals. It doesn't sound much different than z:5. After living in St. Louis for 8 years I came back to MN and now find that spring is sooo late. It is not actually spring in my mind until May when the apple trees start blooming. Even with some bulbs blooming in April Mn is very bare until May. Early May is the height of my wintersowing germination.

Hope you get rain soon - I don't know what official was since it lasted past midnight (I think) and my rain gauge was cracked, but Weather Underground station near us recorded 0.18", TWC says 0.28. Guess I'll have to get the wheelbarrow on level ground and measure how much was in that (DH leaves it upright - drives me crazy but I don't always catch it and til it over before a storm). I'm using a double layer (uncut bags) of burlap covered with bark mulch, hay, whatever I can get my hands on, between rows near the house. Out in the 3000sf area with raised beds that we just fenced, I started putting wood chips but only got about 1 cy and the weeds are growing up through it even though I put it on about 3" thick at the end where the weeds were the worst. I didn't pull them, just tried to smother them - didn't work. We have something really tenacious that even started growing (weak and spindly-looking like bean sprouts) under the burlap on the beds, but practically have to dig *those* out, stems just break when you pull. I haven't been out there to check potatoes and onions, but the greens, strawberries, peas, blueberries near the house look fine, not flattened, no berries knocked off. Looks like a deer nipped off a couple of shoots of 1 of my raspberries though - spit 1 out but I didn't find the other. Guess I have to fence/net off those 2 rows while they're growing. I hope they won't bother them once they're tougher and spinier - though I don't know about the TC blackberries since those are thornless. I don't really want to have to fence off the whole area since we have grass/weeds growing between the mounded rows (24 ft long), just the width of the lawnmower. But if I have to I'll put burlap and mulch down there too, try to smother everything (after mowing first!). And make a gate at 1 end between the 2 rows (was going to add a 3rd eventually) so we can get in. I hope a 6-7ft wide x 25 long area sloping downhill (rows run across the slope) doesn't need to be fenced 7ft high to keep the deer out. That's why I haven't left my tomato plants out at night - take them into garage - the wildlife around here is so bold, the motion sensor light doesn't deter the bear getting into garbage right outside garage, and the deer and turkeys will come right up to the house at night, and into the backyard during the day. Found deer prints going over my potato bed (1ft high) and a couple of seed potatoes pulled out of the ground before we put the fence up. Of course, down there (1000ft from house) it's like a deer/turkey/bear/coyote superhighway, from all the tracks we find.

Thank you so much for asking! The party was great - had a few last minute cancellations since there was a softball tournament the same day and their kids were on teams that kept winning, but I am thrilled that the girls did well so it was all good. The menu was everything listed above, except I skipped the ice cream sandwich thing - it was overkill, and I am glad I did. Several friends (who know me well) know that dessert is usually not my thing, so they all brought desserts! The contributed a pecan pie, a walnut caramel cheesecake (OMG it was delish!), a strawberry cheesecake, and a huge plate of chocolate chip cookies and chocolate covered pretzels. Everyone had a blast and the hat parade was a riot. My GF had been in San Diego on business a few weeks earlier and bought a fascinator there. It was incredible - purple, black illusion lace, black feathers... just amazing and she looked so beautiful in it. I was happy she won, since she has had a tough year battling breast cancer. A special messenger of autumn showed up on a plant under my kitchen window yesterday. It's a long-haired chartreuse caterpillar the size of my little finger, and he was looking for a place to build his winter home. He has a little black 'tail' and black tufts along with black dots along his body. Now he has scaled a nine-foot stucco wall to just under the fascia board and is resting. I don't see any others. (He may have been delivered along with a big yellow mum brought to my front step by a friend.) I think he will become a very plain moth, but he's absolutely gorgeous now.

It really sounds nice!

Annie, a photo booth is what is sounds like, an instant photo booth where the guests pose for their photos in a strip like a carnival/mall booth. They get a copy, and I know for my niece's wedding, the B&G got a copy. It's been pretty popular for a few years now. Pesky, for one of my students' wedding, they gave out drink coasters where you could put the photos as favors.

If my Dd were anywhere near, she would be all over that theme. You would have to lock her out to keep her from helping!!

Gold, shes welcome to come! Our photobooth is going to be a bit unconventional. We`re setting up a site with props and we`ve got some small dry erase boards and will have guests write their sentiment on the boards and that will serve as the guestbook. In addition, people can just use it for fun-we`ll have a digital camera available for the guest book, and pretty much everyone already has a digital camera or phone. I might look into a printer.

We`re also.having lawn games, such as lawn yahtzee, lawn Jenga and lawn scrabble-using oversized pieces.

Craft beers and Two Buck Chuck wine...the kids choice. They want it simple. I know-but its their big day and most of the crowd will be more interested in the mico-brew any way.

What does your dress look like? I have been mother of the bride twice and I know it's not easy to find the right thing!

This wedding sounds like it'll be one of the most fun weddings ever!

This is the dress i ordered. I think itll be perfect for the hot August nights party. Casual yet pretty enough.

The wedding will be at a forested property on a lake. It's a beautiful wedding location, I was trying to link the website but there is a glitch right now. It's called Hornings Hideout, and it's just beautiful. A perfect location for the kids. SIL is an avid disc golfer, and that is how they found this place, they hold tournaments out there. Concerts are big out there, too. They even have peacocks that wander around, it's very lovely.
