Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

70s Split... Exterior Colour Suggestions?

Moved into this 70s split just before Fall. Interior reno’s are mostly complete, and exterior reno’s to follow as soon as the snow is gone :)

I have plans for new fence, window trim, exterior lighting, door/frame/sidelight replacement, removal of concrete planter boxes/front steps redo, as well as custom wood carriage doors on enclosed carport, driveway makeover, landscaping etc etc.

My only dilemma is WHAT COLOUR(S) TO PAINT THE SIDING?? *face palm* I naturally gravitate towards black and dark neutrals (hence the poorly photoshopped picture below) in my day-to-day so I am having a tough time with this.

All opinions/suggestions welcome and appreciated!

i love the dark, drama colors especially w/wood. here are some ideas since you're redoing things

love these!

i love these w/the gray, and black and the redwood/cedar. your house would look so good w/these combos. try and stick in some horizontal wood somewhere. Rather than wood carriage, do more of a modern type of door like shown in these pics.

Okay, I didn't take time but to scan the replies, but didn't see that anyone mentioned screening in the covered porch on the left. It would be quite easy to do so using the ScreenTight system. Just frame above the bricks with two by fours then add the system linked below. We did this to our front porch and it's the best thing we ever did. Not only does it work great for humans, but our pets love having access to the "outside" world while still being kept safe from all that's outdoors. I also want to add my vote to NOT paint the brick, keep shutters and if your garage doors are in good working condition I'd check and see the arches are removable before buying a new garage door. The shrubs that block sight lines to the front door need to be removed. Can you add photos? The one you have is a good overview, but doesn’t give enough detail. Stand about 30’ straight out from the front door and turn your body so you are facing the left property line. Take a series of photos from the same place by rotating your body to create a set of slightly overlapping photos that span from the left property line to the right property line. We need to be able to see location of first floor windows, existing beds, walkways, front entry, etc.

Agree, the shutters look to be too small. Remove them or get some properly sized ones. I would then paint the garage door so it blends in with the siding more and then paint the front door so it pops. Beefing up the porch railings would also help!

You could definitely benefit from an improved, widened walk to the front door and an expanded landing. I can't see that the home needs any new materials or features added to it. But it sure could use improved colors as the existing ones are ominous and somber looking to me. When you want landscape suggestions, you need to take new photos where the camera is not farther away than the curb. Take a series of slightly overlapping photos that pan from far left to far right. 180* ... the front corners of the lot should show in first and last photos. Surroundings have to be seen in order to know what landscaping requires. Also, do not change camera locations between photos. They must all be from the same spot.

Where would be the best place for the horizontal cedar on my home??

Here are some more inspiration pics. If you want to use cedar, the logical placement is to continue the line from the overhang over the front door to the garage with the cedar from under the front door overhang to the bottom edge of the second floor. By painting the front door a modern color it would change the entire front. Good luck!
