Laptop won't connect to internet
Comments (9)yes and it is often very easy to turn it off by mistake. on my netbook it is a little slider button at the very front edge right where I often grab it and in doing so slide it to off. Look for the little symbol that looks like a satelite dish sort of. Also depending on how old it is it may not have a wireless connection card in it which you can take care of easily. Tell us the model of the laptop. Have you hooked it up to your connection using a wire to make sure you can connect that way and it is not some other problem? If not do that right away. and give us more info on the type of connections you have and the specs on the laptop including the OS....See More18 month old Acer laptop won't start, new power supply
Comments (4)Thanks for the replies, appreciate the help! It does not start with battery in place and plugged into a working electrical outlet. The new a/c adaptor is the correct one for that model and is in working order. I don't have a different battery to try in it. When I took the battery out and plugged it into the new a/c adaptor, the power button blinked once but did not turn on. The battery was working fine, charging properly and staying charged as normal prior to the intermittent beeping when the a/c adaptor was plugged in. I think it may be something to do with the jack since my husband says there is nothing wrong with the old power supply....See MoreLaptop won't pass starting window screen
Comments (5)Thank you so much for all of your inputs. I took out the battery as suggested, it did not work. Powered on with/without docking station, it did not work. Went to work called the IT support team. First tried the "tapping F8 key" just as Mikie suggested, got into Start Options menu, picked "Last use good configuration" or something like that. Once computer finished the steps, repowered it on, but the power up still could not pass the "starting window" screen. Then tried the "tapping F12 key". I had to start tapping the F12 key as soon as push the power on botton. Finally get into the start options menu, picked "diagnostic". It ran a lengthy testing for about 30 minutes. The results showed error code 2000-0142, msg 6142 status 79. Tech support person said the hard drive was bad. The rest of the testing on memory and CPU...etc. showed no problem. I am waiting for IT to install new hard drive and port old data. I only hope that the data I did not back up would be preserved....See MoreSrew turns but won't come out
Comments (15)I was having problems with tiny screws that turned but wouldn't come out the whole way on the bottom of a laptop. Started researching it online some and most who had success with this said if you could get something underneath the screw you could gently pry it upward while turning, my problem was similar to this but not such a deep hole, so I used thread and floral wire to get underneath the screws...the one that was really tricky I used the thread. It was a little more time consuming to get the thread the entire way around the screw and it came off the first time so I decided to tie the thread around it the next time around. Then I did just gently pull it out while using the screwdriver a little more. I know this post was years ago but i was linked to it today so Hope this helps anyone else who has this kind of a problem. (on the other side of the plastic there were strange little washers that kept me from gaining access, I think they are there in order to keep the screws attached to the plastic so they don't get lost?)...See Morekudzu9
