Last chance to change my mind: Aga Legacy 36 or Ilve?
Comments (23)Looks-wise, of the two under consideration, I'm thinking the AGA. I know the O and M is later, but I think it's better to go later than earlier, if right on the date doesn't work. Houses do evolve. I never calibrated or worried about BTUs when I had the O and Ms. The people who refurbished them had them set up with 3/4" gas lines and they had POWER. None of this was my doing. Coincidentally, I believe all three were the same model and had the grill-a-vator (sp?) broiler. I've not felt anything as solid, except for a real La Cornue. However, I do understand your thinking about this. I have one question: How often do you think you would use a rotisserie? I regret not having thought of this in my own kitchen. Is a rotisserie worth giving up the look you want? This post was edited by kitchendetective on Fri, Mar 1, 13 at 11:56...See Moreaga legacy ranges
Comments (40)We've owned a 36 inch dual fuel Legacy for three years, so a few hopefully helpful hints follow. We carefully measured the multifuncton oven and bought an old Wear-Ever aluminum roaster on E-bay. Fits perfectly with the handles folded and works great, just like when my grandmother used one. We've done a 22 pound turkey and it came out perfectly. The convection oven cuts turkey time down to 10 mins per pound and browns perfectly - or you can use the roaster cover and steam the turkey. The Wear-Ever looks like it was designed to fit in the oven. Used a ceramic wet saw to cut down a pizza stone to fit the oven. Pyrex 9/13 baking dishes work well in the right oven, but they're just enough too long that they only fit on the middle racks. (Guess the door flexes in a little) Could be some other brands of 9x13 are slightly shorter and might work better. Our only real issue has been a tendancy for one of the stovetop burners to go out after a few minutes. We suspect this is a problem with the safety thermocouple, but have just lived without that eye. We're now arranging for repairs, but there are few repair shops in the Milwaukee area with Aga experience. A word of advice: don't buy these stoves by mail order. You want someone local in case you have problems. Anyone else had burner issues?...See MoreAga Legacy dual fuel 44'
Comments (6)Thanks Richelle, for starting this thread. I'm very close to buying an Aga, but can't decide which one : Six-Four or Legacy DF 36" or 44". While there's no doubt in mind that the Agas have the look I want, there is so little consumer feedback on the products here in the US, that I have little to go on in terms of determining overall quality and value. Like you, Jenanla, I definitely prefer the "heft" of the 6-4 to that of the Legacy. But, I'm also wondering just how important the weight of the frame is to the quality of the product. This much I know: the weight of the doors and frame of the Legacy is pretty much equivalent to that of my Smoothtop antique stove. The latter, a product of Vulcan, has lasted over 85 years. I'm retiring it now because of rust and gas leak issues, not because of it's "lightweight" metal frame. Cpovey, you make a great point of the Legacy 44's odd size. I was actually leaning towards it until I read your comments. Although this range should last a lifetime, and I don't expect to do another kitchen reno in this house after this one, it still might not make sense to lock myself into such a non-standard size in a major appliance. And, Shroppie, I'm delighted to hear you are happy with your Legacy 36"! Have you had any repair issues in the three years you've had yours? What kind of range hood you have? Do you know anything about the quality of the Aga range hoods?...See MoreKitchenaid 48" dual fuel range review
Comments (1)The home we are in now has a Kitchenaid 8 burner dual fuel. The hood is a ventahood. Ours is a 2006 model and hasn't missed a beat. It is easy to clean and the grates are smooth to push pots around. The ovens keep the right temperature as far as I can tell. No regrets. It looks as nice now as it did 8 years ago. Good luck This post was edited by nightowlrn on Sat, Nov 16, 13 at 21:08...See MoreHU-463591010
