I wanted to share what I got for Christmas!
I saddle-grafted Shiranui budwood atop a long Carrizo budstick - late June 2017 [#1 of two attempts- #2 is in background, still asleep].
It was outside in mostly shade and then in a south facing window since mid-November. no growth, but green. - and then -

Grafting with scions that might be waking up already

I often graft taking a piece from one tree straight to another after growth starts but I don't want to see green on the scionwood. Comments (9)When it starts to slip in the bark and have more growth of the rootstock and still have no action on the scion and can't find any more dormant scionwood then one way to do it is finding "green growth buds" from branches of another apple of the kind you want. I have used this method for the last several years in many apples and other fruit trees. Comments (17)@bahamadan, thanks. As for my Oro blanco on Macrophylla I was told when I planted it that the rootstock would only give me dry fruits. The 3 I harvested this season were definitely dry and no good but I chocked that up to the trees age and this being its first season bearing fruit. Carrizo seems to really struggle in my high alkali soils and when reading through the citrus variety collection on tangos the Brix rating was only 1%-2% lower on macro than on Carrizo or trifoliate rootstock so I figured, hey why not give it a shot. As for leaf miners I use imadicloprid systemically 3 times per year. It's my only choice in the desert, I've tried spinosad and neem oil but it burns my leaves because when the leaf miners show up here it's already getting to the 100 degree mark. I stop using it a couple months before harvest so as to try and minimize mine and my families exposure to the chemical. I am also going to try pheromone traps this year and see if that helps, they're readily available online. Your trees look like they're doing well too. @hobbyartisan, I envy those of you up north that can grow citrus in that type of climate. I tried to grow a satsuma in a pot in my climate and failed. It didn't even last one season before it shriveled up from lack of water or too much water or who knows what. I commend you on your lime! @Cory I forgot to mention how cool I thought your greenhouse looked in the dark! It's like a spaceship nestled amidst a white snow blanket, too cool. @Mike, how's it going buddy, glad to see you survived the great blizzard of 2016. I hope you see warmer weather soon and get out of that cold weather depression. Comments (51)A very interesting point. I have a friend who grows all her adeniums on a covered porch ... They get bright light all day but NEVER direct sunlight. Mine are in full direct all day sun. My blooms fade in color after 3 or so days; hers don't. I wonder if my reds like this would be blacker under cover ... ,,, and whether this Blue Spirit could actually gather more of a blue tinge in less sunlight ...
