wired vs wireless?
Comments (16)>It's a dilema easily solved. Put in lot's of conduit.... +1! That's exactly what I did--smurf tubing from a media distribution box to all of the main rooms. If the need should ever arise, I can pull fiber-optic cable to anywhere in the house as easily as Cat-5e/6 or coax. Bigbird: >Everything in the future will be wireless Everything? No offense, but this sounds wildly optimistic, if not short-sighted. Don't get me wrong, I hate the tangle of wires. I've often said that everything should be wireless. But historically, data transmission requirements have increased even faster than Moore's law, and wired has always been at least an order of magnitude faster than wireless. There's no reason to expect these trends not to continue. The physics of radiated energy are vastly more controllable through a conductive corridor versus OTA transmission, plus you have the full bandwidth of the wire at your disposal versus limited wireless spectrum. And fiber blows them both out of the water. At some point in the not-too-distant future, I envision a whole-house high-speed digital communications backbone, supporing multiple simultaneous streams of everything from HD-TV, multi-channel audio, phone, internet, fire/flood/security, home automation, photo/video/file storage and sharing, you name it. Naturally there will be wireless interfaces to this backbone available for low-demand devices that would be too impractical or expensive to run cable for. IMHO, a fully wireless system would struggle mightily to provide this without serious latency and throughput issues. My $.02...See MoreWhat size of TV and media console do I need for this wall?
Comments (52)I really like it, especially with your very 'airy' plant. All 3 objects give one the feeling of 'floating'. Like magic! It makes the oversized electronic, look like it's in a home setting. Very nicely done. Couldn't be any nicer. Now, look for all those with the giant 'entertainment with a bridge' armoires or wall shelving be putting them up on resale websites, so they can lighten the load in their tv rooms... Comments (54)RL Relocation...I love that all! Thank you so much. The light is just a cheap builder grade light, I actually have a fixture I love in another room downstairs ( that we never use) I will move it out there. I may be adventurous and try a real plant! The back of the basement is our bar area... we had requested a different layout but the builder didn't relay the info to the guy that did the custom cabinets, so we got what we have but saved money on the price of the house as a compromise. I am going to start a new thread asking for advice on that area ..you may be able to help me incorporate a console table between the windows into the bar area ( it's very awkward!)...See MoreWalls open - what to wire for a media room in 2021
Comments (6)Wireless dominates. Often built faster than wired. But power is always needed. That is the most important thing - projector location and/or TV location. Make sure you are sure which you want.... Projectors tend to need HDMI not cat5/6 - since they typically aren't smart. Now you can put a Roku on one but the sound needs to come from that signal so typically the Roku (or whatever) is at the amplifier location and then HDMI to the projector. Basic stuff but easily screwed up.... like by me who didn't think we would use a projector in our media room........See MoreCaroline Burton
