Small house Challenge! help updating the exterior
Comments (14)That is a beautiful color siding on the last inspiration pic you posted. Black shutters would work, but not your current shutters. Even if you want shutters on the upper floor, they need to be replaced with properly sized shutters with hardware to get the best appearance like the shutters shown in Rawket Grl's first post. I can't see the bottom window well from the original post. The best thing is to do the other things first and beef up the trim if it doesn't look right to you. I would use siding rather than shingles on this house. JMO. I happen to like the horizontal siding for this property. Is your preference vertical? Are you using Hardy or something else?...See MoreMy split level house needs an external facelift
Comments (19)I agree with the posters that say to remove the shutters. They don't belong on your windows. Landscaping is your best solution to increase curb appeal. Like Sophie Wheeler mentioned above, you can't add a covered space without doing construction to add the cover. There are some fantastic transformations here on houzz with your style home. But it takes $$$$. Landscaping will be the best way to add curb appeal without spending a great deal of money. Comments (9)A significant part of the issue is the completely obscured front door. I only found it because I knew there had to be an entrance somewhere and I saw a tiny white railing peeking out from behind that monster-bush. Change the landscaping, change the garage doors as noted above. Go with an off-white house color and maybe a taupe trim color. I like the “after“ color combination here: https://styleblueprint.com/nashville/everyday/a-fixer-upper-before-and-after/ It would be a nice change from what you have now, but not too drastic. And probably everyone will start copying you. New house numbers, garage lights, paint the downspouts the same color as the siding....See MoreHow can we update the appearance of our home?
Comments (6)I would go with a sage green and lighten the trim more. I would also flank your entry door with two beautiful sconces. I would also remove the two tall shrubs in front of your house. I also think a light wood door would look beautiful. I personally like your black shutters although I'm sure many will say to remove them....See MoreBayis
