Considering Viking electric range or cooktop and double oven
Comments (15)Yep, it is not the induction. I wanted induction, but my budget won't support it at the moment. Had it been induction, both would have been mine, budget be damned ;-). deb52899, keep in touch with the dealer, and other dealers in your area. I got a quote for the same unit I bought from a local dealer and they quoted $6400 with tax, delivery and installation for a "retail" version. Mine was identical, just overstock. They probably would have picked up the new in box overstock and kept the extra $3k. Look for showroom models, OTC and other options. You can save a lot going that direction. I just returned from the distributor and picked up a range hood that was in the OTC area. I picked up a VWH3048SS with a VINV600 blower installed. Retail was about $1600 for the pair, $350 was my price. If you can work with separate cooktop and ovens, they had several induction cooktops there. Not big discounts on them though.. Comments (11)I'm not going to argue induction (though I do favor it), but I have to ask if your sister has a list of things she doesn't like about her existing Whirlpool and/or has a budget. Having that list or a budget range might make it easier to steer her to something. Without that, we're pretty much shooting in the dark. I can tell you that Consumer Reports recommends the Kenmore 92613 (IIRC, made for Sears by Electrolux-Frigidaire), the GE JB705STSS, the LG LRE3023S, and the GE Cafe CS980SNSS. In that order. There are other recommendations that follow in CR's list, but those are a start. Friends of mine have the GEJB705 and like it a lot. I have little first hand experience with it (and I'm prejudiced against radiant electrics). It does have a bridging element (useful if you like using rectangular pancake griddles). The convection oven oven seems to bake pretty evenly, judging from the pepparkakor (ginger snaps) they made on multiple cookie sheets. Standard bake turned out a very evenly browned julekage. The broiler seemed to work pretty well, as CR also concluded. My friends think it does a good job simmering and is reasonably quick at bring pots to boil. The one time I used it to boil water for pasta, though, I thought it was slow. (By slow, I mean ti took about 19 minuts to boil 6 quarts of water; my gas stove does it in 14 minutes and an induction stove will easily do it in 10 minutes.) The oven racks seemed to be the standard oven racks you find on almost every major brand stove. So, take them out of the oven before running the self clean cycle. IIRC, my friends paid around $900 for their GE. This post was edited by JWVideo on Sun, May 12, 13 at 23:33...See MoreBest 30'' gas range under 2K?
Comments (35)I wanted to share my latest range news. Sears approved a complete refund of my GEPBG975 and I bought an electrolux wavecontrol free standing range.(I wish I didn't have to have freestanding..but not enough money to gut my kitchen.) The switchover was today. I had to wait an extra 2 weeks as Sears had to order it. So far it looks like it has all the features of GE, but a few more bells and whistles, including more programing possibilities and very nice smooth sliding racks and a broiler pan and extra rack to be used with the pan for convection roasting. I like the rapid preheat and the instruction book is terrific and not made of newsprint. Also comes with a sturdy "quicklist" that is nice to put near the range while I'm learning the controls. I spoke to Electrolux beforehand...they sent me a cd to give me andvance instructions on how it works. A CD was also included with the range. It seems like a much sturdier and better made appliance than the GE. I like the center burner being an actual medium burner, rather than the oblong style of the Ge. The griddle can be used either as a grill or flat griddle on the left burners. I doubt I'll use that. One of the things I've noticed right away is that there is not that initial startup odor from the burners or the oven when the gas is first turned on. (Like gas logs.)I had that every time with the GE So,initially I give it a favorable report. I'll be doing a lot of cooking in the next few weeks, including making jelly, and will report back. I'm hoping for the best. It is wonderful not to be "shopping" anymore. Oh, the gasket seal seems very tight and the knobs aren't hot, (warm when the stove is on for a while, but that is expected.) Good luck! pdc...See MoreWhat is the best electric slide in range?
Comments (20)Okay so when you say induction, you are talking about the cook top surface... what about the oven? Convection... yea or nea? I am guessing without looking yet that if we are paying for induction, then convection oven is going to be an option. I will see how much for induction, but if past our budget, then need some suggestions on slide in brands that will be a good purchase. We bought a dishwasher on the fly, literally like buying a candy bar at the check out line, and regret it daily! It does a terrible job on washing the dishes! I won't make the same mistake this time around :)...See MoreToronto Veterinarian
