Do you have a Christmas tree stand you like?
Comments (2)Gee Grama, That's what I was going to say. Use small pieces of wood between each screw and the tree trunk. They'll grip the tree, as the screws dig in, and they should hold the tree up nice and straight. I still prefer my 1927 heavy Cast Iron Lighted Noma Tree Stand. It's white and on the sides it has holly and poinsettias. The old C6 lights go in each piece of holly and each poinsettia, 8 lights total, and the base had a double outlet for me to plug the tree's lights into. And of course the stand itself has a plug going into the wall. I've had to rewire it, and put in new sockets to make it safer, but it works great. Even with the artificial tree I use now. Everyone comments on it. And when I tell them it's from 1927, they can't believe it! Ken...See MoreSo, What Did You Get for Christmas?
Comments (32)I got my Vitamix! And an alarm clock with my drill-down of features: always glowing dial with adjustable brightness, silent sweep second hand, snooze alarm, and retro styling! And Pioneer Girl! Not shown, my guys got me a couple of gift packs from Bath and Body Works. Travel sizes, not my favorite scents, so yesterday I exchanged them. For MORE than I got! Yay clearance sales! Two little three-packs became three full size bottles of shower gel, and cash left over, AND a 20% coupon. So I'll be back for, oh, 4 or 5 bottles of lotion and shower gel. Whoopee! Now, about those other two gifts. When we were on a project together this past year, one DB noticed my use of online menu planning. So he got me an adjustable tablet stand, with a stylus, to use in the kitchen. I can use the stylus and not have to dry my hands very time I need to scroll the screen. DB is veery low on funds, so this was a true and thoughtful gift. Another DB lives across the globe and travels extensively for vacations. He gave me yoga socks. I don't take yoga. I have a gym, but he is not aware of it. But my New Years, resolution is to be nice, and DB has gone back home, so, well, maybe I will take yoga at the gym and it will turn out to have been a good gift after all....See MoreSo what did you get? Comments (61)My very favorite gift was from a friend who can cook quite well, that went to the trouble of sending it to me via post. In nice containers too. My son and I would try one each night. Maybe even two. Or three. It was nice to enjoy! List? Not really. My work gave me a turkey (already eaten), my boss gave me a check, my workmates gave me some really cool pop them in the microwave booties that can warm my toes, mom gave me a check, nephew gave me cash, and my sister gave me shiny baubles. I did buy myself an incredibly cheap tablet. So cheap, it is a 10 inch screen, but it came with a keyboard case and stylus, all for $100. I'm not kidding. That's how cheap it is. I have figured out, I only use the tablet for games and magazine reading. I rarely even surf the internet with it even. I'm just glad anyone thought of me at all....See MoreDo you have a funny or awkward Christmas gift story?
Comments (0)I'm loving these gift topics! The topic about not liking certain gifts at Christmas reminded me of a funny & awkward situation I was in. I was in Dillards a couple of weeks before Christmas buying some makeup for myself at the Estee Lauder counter. When I made my purchase I was given a huge, and I mean huge, makeup/lotions/perfume sample kit. The kit was about 20" x 15". EL has nice size samples too. I decided to give it to my MIL as one of her Christmas gifts, knowing she'd like it. She loved experimenting with new makeup anyway. I had planned on telling her it was a freebie, she wouldn't have cared. She was spending the night Christmas Eve, and a commercial for E.L. came on. I casually mentioned how I love getting their free kits with purchases. She immediately said, "I can't stand those." Nevermind that I had seen those little EL makeup pouches in her bathroom. :) She was the type who would often disagree just for disagreement sake, but she was a very nice woman. As soon as she left the room I grabbed the gift and took it to the bedroom. Weird! Do you have any funny memories?...See More- 8 years ago
