8 months after separation & potting

This is in an 8" pot which it has filled with roots & it has put on a nice flush of growth. It is now ready to plant out. I will put it in a new section of garden down the hill where I have plants that will tolerate semi shade. One outstanding feature of these wonderful trees is their upright growth habit which means they can be planted quite close to other things without crowding.

Here is a pic of the A.araucana approach graft

3 months after separating from the seedling:

Notice I have left a stub of the Bunya rootstock about 14" long to brace the new growth.(the whole thing now stands about 4' tall from the soil) I will cut this off when I plant & stake the young tree. Also note the relatively short length of graft in relation to the size of the plant. This was due to the short internodal spaces on the seedling. . . . I just did the graft where it fitted. The donor plant has re shot with multiple leaders which I will be able to take for more grafts.

Although these look rather sideways atm they are quite distinct from normal branches & will make leaders when taken as scions.

I have 7 trays of Bunya for rootstocks (see below pic) which are just showing themselves above the mix after germinating almost 8 months ago

A safe Christmas to all ye Coniferphiles!
