Use of Magic Eraser on Engineered Hardwood Floors

Anand Joshi

I have a new construction home where I got the Boca Raton (Bayfront) Shaw engineered hardwood installed by the builder. During construction, one of the workers spilled something on the floor and tried to wipe it up. (No one knows what was spilled). The result was these stains of droplets and wide streaks(as if someone used a dirty mop - visible in the vertical picture) across the flooring.

Tried water, Bona, rubbing alcohol but nothing seemed to have helped. However, trying magic eraser in a small spot seemed to be removing it. The builder now intends to use magic eraser over a swath that is over 50 square feet to remove all the stains.

My concern is whether the Magic Eraser will damage the finish of the flooring. The hardwood specialist of the builder said that it would not.

I contacted the manufacturer any ways, and they said that Magic Erasers "are not recommended, they can cause shiny spots on laminate and hardwood." They instead recommended that I try "buffing the floor with a 175 rpm machine, red pad, and a neutral cleaner. "

My question:

Has anyone had experience with any of the other approches?

Any recommendations?

I have read a couple of horror stories regarding putting magic erasers to hardwood floors. (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/help-damaged-wood-floors-with-magic-eraser-dsvw-vd~670921?n=7) But if that is the case, then why is the builder's hardwood tech so confident that magic eraser will not cause issues?
