Can I Save This Sweetbay Magnolia???
Comments (5)Thankyou all so much! It is a lovely tree and I really want to save it. The houses are 1 story over a crawlspace - maybe approx 17' at top of roof. I think I'll call the professionals and get it trimmed correctly. It might be a good time to give the huge River Birch(in the background)a little touchup. I'm thinking that it might be best to wait until the weather turns cooler before I have anything done. Thank goodness Ihave great neighbors)!...See MoreDying dahlia, can i save it?
Comments (16)Oh dear, Farrah. That looks pretty dreadful, I'm afraid. It's badly stretched and weak through lack of light and probably excess warmth. Google 'etiolation'. If that were mine I'd stick it outside and ignore it. I wouldn't cut it down. It might put out new sprouts from the tuber as long as it hasn't rotted. I'm assuming there's a drainage hole in the pot? Or it might die. Not much you can do to influence what it does at this point. btw there are no borers in the U.K. which attack dahlias. And don't worry too much about the comment above about needing lots of sun. They do need plenty of light but they are perfectly happy with our overcast skies. It doesn't have to be bright sunshine. Our weather suits dahlias fine. Plenty of rain and no extremes of heat. And yes, you could have just potted it up and put it outside. It would have been much happier. There are plenty of growing dahlias in the garden centres if you want a quick cheat replacement. You could probably even start new tubers if you can find any still available....See MoreHelp! Comments (6)OUCH! No wonder it looks sad. There doesn't seem to be much roots and what you do have looks like some of the small ones are rotted. Do as KarenS advised by cutting the healthy green sections for starting over. If the stem is yellow, probably not worth keeping. If green go for it. You can cut the leaves off if they don't perk up with some much needed water (maybe a humidity bag will help the cuttings and perk up the leaves if there is any life in them)....See MoreMy Phoenix roebelenii is dying, how can I save it?
