Wall of windows with large empty vertical space between - help!
Comments (27)Rather than focus on the wall of windows you might first paint the walls a mid-tone or darker which will do wonders at warming up the room. You may not then need to dress the windows at all. You have very valid reasons for leaving them uncovered. Window coverings for that expanse of windows will be very costly and there are many other ways of warming up the room. If you are interested in having plants to soften the space you might consider a couple of Dieffenbachia as they are fairly inexpensive when small and grow quite quickly. Of course there are warnings about the toxicity but I've never had kids or pets eat them and I have read that warning is over-rated. I've had one grow to over 8' tall and seen them much taller than that. They actually do better in lower light situations and mine did well in a north-east window. Whatever plant you choose you could put it on a pedestal when small for greater impact. I'm not a fan of accent walls so wouldn't advise painting the fireplace wall a different color. Too often accent walls don't work as intended for interest and I think there is enough going on in this large room so that keeping all walls the same color would be best....See MoreHow much space between the end of bookcases and the wall?
Comments (10)Thanks all. I guess I'm not quite ready yet, am I? Naturally, the 32" and 36" are in two different lines so I can't mix them, although I think one can be custom sized (or I could keep looking). If I do a custom size order, I can just go ahead and fill the wall. And...there are different depths. Would it be weird to have the one (ones?) in the middle be extra deep, breakfront style? I'd like the extra depth but I have a light switch to consider. :) It's very possible that they will be moved at some point. I've been told that I have a bad habit of rearranging furniture (and then telling the spouse to redo all the media hookups heh heh). Nosocc, I tried to make IKEA work for me. I really did! But it would have to be painted and I have too many unfinished projects. (I actually kinda enjoy the assembly part.) The wood species/colors on Billy just don't work with what we have. Psst, isn't that Billy and not Hemnes? See? I've been looking! The styling on Hemnes is too contemporary? Modern? Current? Pottery Barnish? Anyway, not neutral (like Billy) enough to slip in to my used furniture mix....See MoreDecorating wall space around a large bookcase
Comments (16)niccidhg, you've made my Monday!!! : ) As a designer, you gather all this knowledge over the decades and want to impart it to someone, so I do this on Houzz. I try to be realistic and to illustrate layouts for rooms. But I often wonder whether I am reaching anyone out there. So thanks for the compliment. Now if I could just figure out a way to spread this content on TikTok, I'd really be happy!!! Any clever person out there with knowledge of how I might do this, let me know. Large gap between my two sliding glass frameless shower doors
Comments (22)after seeing that hardware, yes, it would explain the gap. what's going on here? this shouldn't be raised like that: those tracks and plastic will get gross and gunky within 6 months. (if this is used daily. ) I have a frameless and those plastic barriers are a pain to keep clean. within a year or so they harden and yellow. You have all the soft marble tile work, and those big bulky door sliders. the two don't work together. yours fits more of more masculine, industrial type of shower. (which you don't have) honestly, I'd have them rework it and give you a less obtrusive top rail. maybe like this one or just do frameless doors....See MoreDiana Ly
