Ipad problems

grandson accidently locked my Ipad, which I cannot open now. It came with NO instructions to link to ITunes. I did not have a password to unlock, am I going to have to live with this? I called Apple store and they said they could unlock, but would lose everything that was downloaded on it. Is this true?

If you have iTunes on a computer plug it in and see what happens. Mine automatically opens when plugged in.

If you or your grandson have ever synced the ipad to your computer, it may see it as a trusted device and unlock, but unlikely. If not, you have two options, guess the passcode, or perform a factory reset via iTunes or at an Apple Store. Nobody can unfortunately unlock it for you unless your grandson can remember the passcode he put on it. You may also need to know the password for the apple ID configured on the iPad to get past the Apple Activation Lock. But that would likely be your password, or your grandsons if he changed that too. Apple devices are great until you have problems like this. Best of luck. Once you get it working again, put a passcode on it so he cant change it, or put one on it again. Or tell him to get his own.

I think it is a GW problem. At least, GW is the only site where I am having it. I can now enter my password and post using my computer and my iPad, as I am now doing, but I still cannot log in via iPhone. It keeps telling me that I must log in after I enter my user name and password on the iPhone. My updates are current, if that matters. No, no error message appears, no passwords have changed. In my limited experience, 3G is often problematic. It's best not to use it unless you must, like in the car, or for those features which only work on 3G. It also saves you bandwidth to use wifi when available. It's possible that your 3G was running slow and timing out before the information made it to the site. Where I live, theoretically we have 3G on all networks and 4G on some, but in reality we're usually on the Edge network or equivalent, which makes it more or less impossible to use it for anything more than text email.

You have to tap the text box to get it so you can scroll up and down inside it , to do that I have to use two fingers. One finger I just pressed down and tap in the text box and hold it there and use another finger at the same time in the box to make it scroll. You have to try it several times as the iPad is fussy. Hope that makes sense.

The first 5GB is free. Once you fill it up you have to delete stuff to make room, or you need to pay for a larger storage capacity. Apple will not charge you for more storage unless you specifically choose to upgrade. iCloud holds your backups, your contacts, etc., but these are usually minor in size compared to your photos. well I don't know how to plug it into ITunes and surely don't know how to do a factory reset. You all must realize that I am a computer idiot, but thank you. If you could make your info a bit clearer for me, maybe it would help.

Apple products are especially made for users with limited tech knowledge or understanding. There are numerous Apple forums easily found on the internet that should lead you to an answer because the situation you describe is not uncommon. Alternatively, find a younger family member or teenager in the neighborhood to pursue the solution for you - it shouldn't be hard or take too long.

A Google search took me to an Apple support page with a solution to your problem in less than 30 seconds. Alternatively, take yourself and the ipad to an Apple store.

Unfortunately the only “solution” to a lost passcode is to reset the device and yes you will loose whatever is on it. There’s a couple of things to understand. The first is the difference between the device’s passcode and your AppleID password. The passcode is for a device, the password is for your Apple account (typically used to pay for things like apps and music).

If you have been using iCloud to back things up, once you reset the device anything that was backed up will still be available. Of course, any apps you’ve downloaded will also be restored but you may loose things like levels in games or settings within an app.

If you happen to have an Apple store nearby, you might want to think about taking advantage of the classes they offer for their products. Most are free, you just need to sign up.

Isn't there a possibility that the things on her iPad have been automatically backed up to iCloud? Worth hoping for and checking out, if you think you may have lost everything. I seem to recall that the backup was happening on my iPad, and I was so clueless that I didn't realize it for awhile--not that it's a bad thing at all to have happen!

It is possible, but my assumption is that its not configured. Here is a good resource regardless. https://www.lifewire.com/fix-forget-your-iphone-passcode-2000279 Its for an iPhone, but works the same for an iPad.

Don't hand grandson device ever again. So grandson set up a password and doesn't remember it? Take to apple store and get reset...if you bought any apps, books on ibooks or music it can be restored tho you might loose some game play info depending on the game app or loose info you added to other apps. If you were using icloud to back up the ipad everything will be recoverable not just apps. If you have not been using icloud ask apple staff to set you up to back up when they do the reset. A password is a good idea you just need to remember it...it will keep pesky grandsons out of your stuff.
