Another post: Am I being picky about our backsplash??
Comments (8)Hi Jane, I understand how you feel about things not being quite right and then having to decide if you can live with them or if they will drive you crazy. Assuming that it would be no more difficult to change it later if needed, I'd suggest living with it for awhile, at least until you get more of the other elements into the room. You may find that, in the whole beautiful room, it isn't as much of an issue as when you are focussing on it now since it is newly installed. Remember we are doing our masterbath in similar colors and materials to you? Well, let me share with you our latest hiccup... After many long delays (mostly on our part), our custom vanities were due to be installed last Thursday. Our lovely Amish craftsman travelled 2 1/2 hours with his driver to bring them to us. If it had been any other person coming, I would have rescheduled because I was soooo sick and miserable that day. My husband saw the cabinets first and said, "You'd better take a look at these, they're really dark." And they were. Several shades darker than the stain sample piece that many months ago we had cut in half to give us both the same color reference. They stopped attaching the cabinets to the wall and waited for my husband and I to discuss what to do, very apologetic and completely willing to take all three vanities back to be refinished. A pretty major decision needed to be made at a time when I could hardly hold my head up. It was definitely going to change the "look" of the room but would that necessarily be a bad thing? After the time and expense of this project there was no way we'd want our cabinets to affect how we felt about the room. The cabinets were gorgeous and the darker color was lovely so we decided that they would stay. Each time I've looked in the room since then, I'm happy with how they look with our tile and think that darker probably is better after all... I think we were headed to too many mid-tones. The new color of our vanities looks almost exactly like yours(!) Unfortunately, two of the three had to go back to be remade for other reasons but that's another story. *sigh* Good luck with your project and continue to post pics and updates... I'll be watching for them!...See MoreCreative Counter Top Storage - Fruit/veggies/bread
Comments (20)syllabus and bleigh - I am going to check out ikea - usually the stuff they have is in chrome or some other silver color which I do not have anywhere in my house at the moment, but I will take a look. Patser - that is one of the problems I have with the huge rack/basket I have now. I think it does leave bruises on things. busybee3 and southernfrenchie. I do love the idea of those hanging baskets. I would love to find some that are two tiered and shorter and hang them from under the cabinets. I could just see DH's face if I told him I wanted to hang that from the ceiling in our kitchen. :) I just don't think we have a good place for it. Hmmmm well maybe over the island sort of area. I will ask him what he thinks. oh and syllabus - I will link the item below. It is from a company named America Retold. I have fallen in love with half their stuff. Especially these.... Hopefully that thing I did order will be in soon and I can either decide I love it or rule it out and keep going on the search. I thought of about 4 other places I could use it if I love it so I am hoping it is not too small or to poorly made. Here is a link that might be useful: rack for syllabus...See MoreIdeas for Backplash- please weigh in :-)
Comments (47)Thanks everyone! I thought I posted something last night but I must have been tired because I don't see it here now lol! I still would love to be able to bring in some color w/ the backsplash if possible- although the tans are pretty too, especially the crackles! Through some of your links I saw that there is a 'The Tile Shop' about an hour from me so I will definitely have to go there too. I'm going to make a list of all the great recommendations and try to locate them in person! The fireclay brick is soooo pretty- it's too bad it only comes in one size. I'll have to get a sample anyway though! :-) As far as the kitchen style I was originally trying for 'refined natural' but now it is more 'refined rustic' due to the rustic sway of my DH :-). So if the tile choice could sway it towards being more rustic (than it is haha) or craftsman I would like to avoid that. So maybe lean towards the lighter shades of the mentioned tiles for this effect? Thanks everyone :-) Such great great ideas!!...See MoreBlack Backplash or White or other color?
Comments (6)Pick out one of the tones in the counter -- doesn't have to be dark, just needs to coordinate. Your counter is busy, so I'd keep the splash very simple and go with a subway. First things first -- replace the undercabinet lights that are strongly yellow, they're casting a weird amber glow on everything. (I have 3000K, and they're bright white but not harsh)...See Morepaulinteriors
