In order to be re-used over and over again by a insurance adjuster, the clean up (mitigation) company will do whatever the adjuster asks. The adjuster wants to save money so they ask the mitigation company to prop up the countertop. I have seen this exact "proppred up" countertop scenario over a hundred times. Here is what you need to know... the insurance is still responsible for the countertop if it breaks during new cabinet installation. Your cabinet guy will at least have to try put the cabinets under the countertop or call the adjuster and let them know that he cant do it. The adjuster can not tell you what cabinet guy to use. Therefore, the adjuster has to decide to break the law and force you to use a cabinet guy that can do it or adjuster has to say "ok" and pay for the countertop. This is your claim, not the adjusters. Another thing. Do not let the adjuster tell you how much your getting for your repairs. you need to hire someone, get the exact price that your guy needs via a written estimate to get the job done. Insurance will try to get him to drop his price but strong contractors will not budge. Insurance uses a program called Xactimate. Xactimate is good unless you leave out "line items" example the adjuster will pay for 10 feet of new cabinets via the xactimate pricing but will leave out the refinishing of all other cabinets to match the new cabinets. Adjusters are not contractors. They can only pay for damaged things that they know about. Contractors and experts like me know exactly what needs to be repaired.

Cover if with thick paper like Recommended by others and taking lots of pictures. Our stupid contractors did the same -but I guess it was our fault for not putting our foot down and telling him no. He was being kinda of aggressive and we were like - ok whatever - would be nice to have floors even if contractor told us that would be last! Learned our lesson. They didn’t do the best at covering and we had several big scratches on our new wood floors. After they pulled paper up we noticed more things but i do not know if that was there before or not. So taking pictures is a great idea. We did have our cabinets installed before the floors but some do have cabinets installed on top of cabinets from what i ha w learned. Our floors looks ok in the places where they covered with some thick brown paper. They doubled up on it . But i. The areas where they used thinner brown paper is where we have the problems Make sure it’s covered !! Our contractors workers started walking and Working on our newly installed floors!!! I could not believe it. They installed floors and didn’t even cover them!!!

I think your cabinets are gorgeous and I disagree regarding there being too much wood if you use wood floors. It depends on the color. I have a LOT of wood in my condo - cabinets - cabinets in the dining area and large wall unit. I also have a wood table in the dining area. My wood (except for the table) is quarter sawn white oak in a medium honey tone. My wood floors are in the kitchen and I think they work beautiful with the wood. I deliberately chose a natural stain oak floor in a fairly innocuous narrow width plank so the floor didn't make a "statement" as I just wanted it for a background. These aren't the greatest photos as they were just quick snapshots but the wood floor is basically a warm blonde color - i.e. natural. This is a pretty good representation of the floor color and I actually used this chair to show the cabinet maker what color stain I wanted on my cabinets - he took the chair to duplicate the stain in his workshop. My table - just to illustrate there is a LOT of wood in my open plan home. This is not taken in my home FWIW. This is a pretty good representation of my cabinets - floor is probably over-exposed so it's lighter than in real life but I think it shows that wood cabinets play well with wood floors provided there is sufficient contrast - and my floors are fairly light and contrast with the cabinets in real life as well. Last picture is a bit darker (both floors and cabinets) that in real life but I added just to show how much wood I have in a fairly small space in terms of cabinetry. The tall cabinet in the first picture is a more accurate representation of the color of my cabinets which is warmer than they appear in the second picture.
