Comments (30)You've received a lot of good, helpful advice already, here and at the Kitchen forum. "most of the new models in Florida now have 12 foot ceilings in the great room and kitchen with many vaulted to 16 feet. This is especially true when there are views to water and they are using 10 foot glass doors to take advantage of the views." I understand about the views but people have to live inside a house, and in order for that to be done comfortably and pleasantly, you need a reasonable, human scale and proportions. Not something outsize and overscaled. This is already creating problems for you. At the very least with this sort of scale, an architect should plan for the interior problems/challenges that arise. As they have arisen here. You have two problems. One is the scale and size of the general project, the other is the layout of the kitchen. If we had a built in coffee machine where would you put it? First figure out how you use your kitchen, what you want and need in it, and THEN plan your kitchen. Not the other way around. How big is your family? Do you like to cook? Do you cook often or reheat takeout? Do you bbq outside? Do you eat a lot of vegetables and fruit? Do you shop for groceries often or infrequently? However, you can't consider the kitchen in a vacuum....See MoreTo keep or change old cabinets in new house
Comments (9)if your contractor could take the uppers at the peninsula and source you some glass doored matching fronts...that would be a start. If he could do that while changing [painting] all the uppers to white that would be even better. Get him to quote you these two changes and think about it. I might ask how he sources the paint job just so you have an idea. I hope it's not his grandkid after school in his shed or something like that. Just a general idea so you know how good an end product you will be getting....it ends up being all about price and convenience for you. Long term, I think you may want to redo the whole thing, so be prudent, but he may be a good resource....See MoreHow to change kitchen with black cabinets and pendant lighting
Comments (5)I think your kitchen is pretty! I sometimes like to up the cozy factor and keep things dark when there isnt a lot of natural light. you could keeping the cabinets black, replacing some with glass doors, or even consider going with a color more saturated backsplash. Is it that the chrome gray black and white scheme feels a little cold to you? I wouldnt do different hardware on the different colors, I’d stick to the same and think about brass perhaps? I have unlaquered in my kitchen and it deepens to a dull darker color that is warm and not overpowering. For the pendants it depends if you want modern or more traditional? You could do brass for those as well! do you want them to be glass because you need the extra light in there or are you ok with solid options with just a downlight? helps to find inspiration pictures...See MoreKitchen Remodel design dilemma - how best to extend kitchen?
Comments (12)Are you replacing the floors, or do you have extra flooring? If not your new island would have to cover all parts of the floor the current island does (unless you are so lucky that your flooring goes under your cabinets. Ours did not.) I would look at your corner pantry and make sure that you are optimizing storage there, or consider if that space comes in play in your renovation. At the far right end, rather than open shelves, I would suggest another cabinet as I feel you have very limited storage space. I would consider losing that window on that wall in order to get more storage....See MoreRelated Professionals
