The best is if you can have a relationship with a florist close to where your stepmother lives. Then, you can call and send an arrangement for special days and know you are getting good quality. If that's not possible, I think MtnRdRedux recommended FarmGirlFlowers recently. I haven't tried them yet.

Hm yes, I do send her flowers already for mothers day and her birthday. but I thought maybe once a month in jan/feb/march maybe april? would be nice, during the cold months and tax season. I could call a florist by her, but not sure how I would gift that. I will check out those places too :) thank you!

Boopadaboo, once when I was visiting my mother, I went to the florist I was interested in using. I met the owner and the floral arranger and explained to them that I was interested in being able to order from them periodically and know that I was getting spectacular arrangements, not FTD-type stuff. I talked to them about colors and style and they set up a little profile for me. Any time I wanted to send flowers, I would call them and use my credit card to pay.

Nice gift, IF she won't have to wait around for a delivery each month.

We once had someone give us a monthly repeating type gift of different cheese. We were notified the day before that a delivery would be made the next day. ??? we often had plans and had to arrange for someone to pick up our package. Nice thought and we did appreciate it but it became a task.

We gave a flower of the month to my late grandmother for years, she loved it and the plants were of very high quality, and some a bit unusual. The subscription we used was for live plants, not cut flowers, which I preferred, she got to pot it, water it, watch it grow, etc., all good for someone older who spends a lot of time at home. I think we used Smith & Hawken, sadly out of biz now, but there are tons if you google, including the venerable, but not too exciting, Harry & David. There are always other "xx a month" options, including cheese, wine and all sorts of stuff, here is an article from Real Simple that I bookmarked, 30 different types of "xx a month" subscriptions.

Echo lakeaffect on Harry & David's. I enrolled my 96-year old father in their plant of the month club, which is not cheap, but it gives him a lot of joy to receive a different plant each month, to remove the plant from the packaging and water it. He lives with my sister and my sister has been able to successfully transplant most of the plants in her garden once the blooming period ends, which has been a good thing.

Thank you all. Glad to hear it is not a crazy idea. what is frustrating to me about the local places is they seem to charge so much for delivery :( but I am going to call the place today by her and see what they will do.

They have so many plants. some were my grandparents and are 50-70 years old! they even have s plant/solarium kind of room. so I thought that flowers would not give the another job :)

Luckily they work from their house, so I don't think that part will be an inconvenience, but that is a great point to consider!

Almost 40 years ago, when my military husband was sent unaccompanied to Okinawa for a year & a half, he secretly set up ahead of time for flowers to be delivered to me every month. =) Needless to say, it was a big hit with me!! And eventually led to my job at the florist for 12 years...

My mom is in a nursing home in Seattle. I started sending her flower arrangements about every month and signed up with FTD for Gold account which wasn't expensive and I get free shipping each time. They always have specials and all of the five or six I have gotten her so far have been perfect! I did have issues with FTD in prior years but this has been awesome. They do not always come from the same florist I notice.
