How deep should a microwave shelf be?
Comments (2)How deep is the MW you are getting? Add a few inches for air clearance to your MW's depth (check the specs) and you should be able to calculate the depth you need. Check the specs for the types/sizes of MWs that are similar to what you would like and go from there. When I need to know general dimensions of appliances, I usually start at a site like AJMadison - they have a large selection and decent search functionality. You might also post this question on the Appliances Forum, perhaps you'll get a general answer from the folks over there....See MoreDecorating help for this shelf or add more shelf ? suggestions?
Comments (2)I think I would take three of the large pieces you have hanging on the wall with the windows and hang them over the shelves. Hopefully you have space for the other two somewhere else in the room. Then move the cabinet to the middle of the wall. I would not put anything on the shelves. A rug will interfere with the movement of the office chairs. A day bed with a trundle might work. You have to measure the room. Good luck....See MoreNeed to design a pulley system to hoist large boxes onto a shelf
Comments (14)I'm thinking of a ramp you slide the box up on. It would be narrow and have sides a foot tall so the box can't tip to the side. It rolls left and right, maybe a wheel at the bottom and a rail at the top just in front of the shelf that it rides on. Line it up, use a special stick to push the box into an empty shelf space. To retrieve one, the other end of the stick has a hook on it to pull it out onto the ramp. The ramp stores by rolling it all the way to one side and parking it against the wall. It's low-tech, no hoists or pulleys, nothing suspended dangerously overhead, no ladders....See MoreDesign buffs, please help! Island, Wall decor, Shelf decor
Comments (5)You don't need to fill each nook and cranny. Negative space theory says the eyes need to rest sometimes. For the large wall, consider a local artist or art gallery. Also, some colleges have their own art galleries. If you don't get anywhere there, I've gotten some beautiful prints from art.com. They have a wide selection. I just buy the print from art.com and then I get it framed locally with plexiglass (safer and lighter than glass, and thus easier to hang). You don't have to be in a hurry to fill the walls. Wall decor is highly personal and each person has their own taste. Wall decor can even be a conversation starter! Besides framed prints, you can also get 3-D pieces such as an iron piece, tapestry, or a plate grouping....See MoreCDR Design, LLC
