Need advise on an HID light system
Comments (16)Ross, I like out-of-the-box set-ups. My 400-watt HPS had everything I needed, I just needed to attach a few screws. But just to throw a monkey wrench into your plans, have you thought about LED lights? They are mo-re expensive to buy, but they have lots of benefits, especially if you count bulb replacement, the cost of electricity and AC costs in summer. There are even some models that allow you to control the amount of Red and Blue light, depending on the growing stage. I just bought a 125 watt panel (list price, $209) that covers the same area as a 400 watt HPS from this store but I don't think they sell the adjustable ones. But from another site it tells you how many panels you need. For your plants, it looks like 2-4 panels since you need medium to high mols/day. The cost of the fixtures may end up being the same but you would be looking at using 250-500 watts per hour instead of 1200-1800. Of cou-rse, you can always buy one HPS/MH lamp and a LED panel and see which works the best! Mike Forum owners: will you PLEASE quit adding links to my messages....See MorePro lighting advise needed
Comments (10)skp1020, Prior to gunite you can place full size lamp niches anywhere you choose except for in the steps. Perhaps he mentioned that because one of them would have aimed back towards the house. I won't place 500watt lights aimed at a house but I will with color changing lamps. The only time they show very bright is on white. Most folks will only lock a color on anything but white. When I use any of the color changing lights I aim them at each other over the longest runout of the pool. Osorry, Yes, there is nothing affordable about adding lights to a pool after the plaster except for when your replastering a pool, even then it's more coin than it would have been to have done it during stubout for gunite. As for the fiber optics, I wouldn't recommend them for your application. The only time that I now use fiber is for illuminated fountains or for under coping illuminated rope lighting around the perimeter of the pool. I agree with Landa mac, I've only seen Intellibrite lights once after dark, but they did look like they reflected more light laterally than the Sams or the Colorlogics. see ya, Kelly...See MoreNeed help choosing outdoor entry light(s)
Comments (20)It looks ok to me from the pic, but that is a weird perspective. I like that the new light more closely matches the size of the mailbox. In general, I look for a grid for alignment. The top of the light looks like it almost aligns with the top of the trim. It's ok if it aligns with the bottom of the trim. It is probably ok wherever it is. The top of the mailbox I originally thought should be lower. If it's easy to temporarily remove the mailbox, I'd try it top aligned with the top of the trim, or the bottom of the trim. Or 2/3 overlap could be ok. Then you have the flag. So I would just play with the mailbox position so you have the right amount of space for the 3 items....See Moreadvise of led brightness level for outside front entry
Comments (3)Hello seaninebowen, For color temperature, the most commonly used in residential outdoor lighting is 2700K (soft white). As far as wattage goes, that would be dependent on your fixture's ratings (line or low voltage, max/min watt.) and your personal preferences on the intensity of the light output. -Evan K....See MoreDH
