Comments (4)Guys, thank you for your kind thoughts concerning DSIL's sweet Mother. It all happened during strange weather. Comments (13)Hi Bill, Thanks for your advice. Looking at yout post, you have a 50ft by maybe 30 feet, (10 feet per car) area to clear. So that is about 1,500 square feet. You are looking at about 20 - 30 mins. What is your typical snow depth there? If I have 400 feet by 10. I have maybe 4000 sq feet. So Am I therefore looking at over an hour at a minium. In which case maybe a snow blower is not a way to go. I guess my problem is I am just not sure how long it will take me. Anything under an hour would probablly be managable. Anything over is probablly not going to work. Is there a formula to work out given roughtly X square feet to clear and a snow depth of y inches how long it will take? The Honda claims 71 tons per hour. And I read somewhere that snow weighed like 1 lbs per sq foot inch. So If I get an average 4 inch snow fall, it would take me: 4000 * 4 * 1 / (2000 * 71) = 0.1127 of an hour or about 7 minites. Clearly this incorrect. So what is a better formula? My DH drives truck for a living (not what he would like to be doing) and called this morning saying that in the Harrisburg, PA area there was a good foot of snow on the ground. In all his years of driving truck, he has never seen that kind of accumulation there. But when he tired of hearing the complaints about the amount of snow, he couldn't help it. Comments (16)Just so everybody can envy us, it's in the mid-60's here in Northern CA, the sun is shining, and my freesias and rhodies should be blooming by next month. This is why we put up with earthquakes, LOL. Sunshine Soup So named because it's high in beta-carotene - invented on the spur of the moment by me. Good hot or cold. Suitable for vegans. 1 lb baby carrots 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 qt of unflavored soy milk or almond milk one 14.5-oz to 16-oz can of stewed tomatoes, preferably Muir Glen or S&W brand (S&W, a regional subsidiary of Del Monte, has less salt than any other major brand) three 2" sprigs of fresh basil, marjoram, parsley or oregano, or substitute 1 tsp dried herb Bring the carrots, salt and pepper to a boil, cover and simmer until very tender. The amount of water to cook the carrots depends on how fresh they are. If fresh, use 1 cup of water and check after 15 minutes. If they are old, cook the carrots in 1-1/2 cups of water and test in half an hour. Most of the water should have evaporated; if not, uncover and cook over high heat until there is approximately 1/2 cup water left - measurement is NOT critical. Let cool slightly before blending (this reduces splashing). Using a blender, puree the tomatoes with the herbs - if using fresh herbs, discard any woody stems. Working in batches, puree the carrots with the tomato puree and the soy or almond milk. Taste for seasoning. Depending on how salty the tomatoes are, you may need more salt, although this will increase sodium content considerably. In each soup bowl, float one whole herb leaf or a parsley leaf, for an attractive appearance. Makes about 1-1/2 qts of soup....See MoreUser
