Snow Again

Got out the mukluks, the absolutely waterproof NorthFace, gloves, the broom, dustpan, containers of birdseed---took up where I left off a few weeks ago...well, actually, I think it was 6 weeks ago. I only just this past week got the Saab all the way through the other end of the driveway, due to the huge mounds of snow left by the front-end loader which dug out the lane last time.

More coffee. Start the rounds and hope the two stray cats can get to food left for them.

We just said good-bye to my DSIL's mother this Friday, as the straight-off-the-mountains wind tried to swipe the flowers from her casket.

More than one grandchild mentioned during the service, how she never let any stray animal go hungry.

I never have either, only now, she will always keep me company as I put out dishes of food for the small hungry ones.

She always had a smile to give, also....for 88 years.

I am sorry for your and your family's loss.

Dugg out the drive this morning too. We had about 6" of powder and I figured that would be easier to shovel than later on the wet stuff. The pass to the birdfeeders and the sheltered area for the strays, the racoon and the possums got cleared before daybreak and the dishes refilled, they don't like to come by during the day. We are on the western edge of the system and now the sun tries to come out.

Hang in there Jalal, Heavy thunderstorms here, though it did make it up to 70F earlier(now 60 and rain comes and goes and quite odd looking clouds.) My fish aren't out yet either, though it's more because I had an issue with hooking up my waterfall. Now it's too wet and rainy to work outside. Besides, the pond water is 60F and the fish and indoors are at 68F, it's workable I guess but the kneeling on soggy grass to work on the pond isn't that attractive). I was at the garden centre this morning during one heavy thunderstorm and bought some more pond plants as well as other flowers. Last night I noticed mosquitoes are starting to come out. Glen

I am from southern California (RSM in s. Orange County) so dealing with snow was interesting when we moved here in Aug. 08...now I am getting used to it. Used to live in Pahrump, NV. before that so I know heat. Hubby is from Minnesota and as he repeats to me "this isn't snow"....and I believe him. Had another snow storm around 5pm yesterday after the other stuff had melted...my God it brought more freezing temps along with it...28 last night at 10pm. It is meting now that it is warming up. Grant: The bulbs look okay...some got smashed but most did okay. Got some beautiful photos of tulips in the snow. I would post photos but GW is a royal pain for me to do it. I'll try again...LOL. Dave: we just drove through Cottonwood last Monday...on our way to Sedona. You'll get there. We moved from Pahrump, Nv. to here in 08...it was a wonderful change. My daughter and her family moved here from Bullhead City last year and they would agree with you about that heat. It sucks. They had 130 degrees in the summer. Ugh. Not snow again!!

Snowed here all morning and part of the afternoon, before rain replaced it. Canceled all of today's planned errands, because of safety concerns. During the afternoon the temperature began rising and coupled with the rain, almost all of the snow had melted by nightfall. A few lawns, with dead summer grass, still have a little showing. AccuWeather is predicting a string of normal temperatures (highs=60s. lows-40s) for 8 days, beginning Saturday and then back to below normal again for? If that happens, I have so much work planned, that I will need a recuperative period!

I'd say we got four inches of very light, fluffy snow here in Joplin, although I haven't been out yet to measure. It's cold, and was very cold last night. In fact, it's the first time in my long life I have ever worn two pair of socks. "My" birds are cold and hungry out there. I've been tossing seed from the back door, but feeders need to be recharged. I'm starting to need my Wal-Mart Fix -- have plenty of food in, but sure miss seeing fellow humans. Maybe will get out Thursday. Maybe. I'd make a terrible pioneer. Sunny

I thought our area was a little farther north of the major snow line, but we're still getting our share. Since I have a yucky head cold--first one in over three years--I won't go out and shovel. The young man who cuts grass in summer will do the honors.

KJ, sorry for your family's loss, but what a lovely remembrance to have of the dear lady.

Guys, thank you for your kind thoughts concerning DSIL's sweet Mother. It all happened during strange weather.

There were no church services today--we had a small service at the kid's house---we live next door to each other.
We were doing pretty well 'til we tried to sing
'In the Sweet By and By' for our closing hymn.
We were crying and then laughing at the same time!
(If DSIL's Mom had been there, she would've made him go get a switch so she could swat him one!)
