It's Snowing in HOUSTON! (pix)
Comments (42)I'm at work and can't see your pictures, May, but I can see the other ones. I remember some rare snows in Houston - usually it was around 55° and would melt on its way down, but I think I did once see some on the ground for a few minutes. Our weather is in the 50's here - it got down to 50° this morning. No snow near my house, but I did get a view of snow from my front door. These mountains reach about 5500', I think, which is usually below the snow level, but I believe the snow fell at 2000' last night, which is extremely low for here and would include some of the suburbs. I'm still fairly close to the beach, and not very high (although I am no longer in a tsunami zone), and so it didn't get as cold at my house as it did downtown. Still, 50° is extremely cold, and I had to wear gloves. I wanted to wear earmuffs, but I have no idea where they are since I haven't worn them in years. I might have to buy new ones. Comments (7)Oh, May! So sorry you are having such a rough time with this event! For what it's worth, we've all been there at one time or another! Check out the Biscotti recipe thread, lots of great ideas there! I have not tried the Molasses Cookies, yet. I will, even tho I am not a big fan of molasses cookies. I am sure Tim will gobble them up! If you are looking for alternatives to Cosmos, here are a couple Tried & True cocktails that are very festive for this time of year. I can vouch for both of them! (hic!) Holiday "Pom"tini Makes 1 cocktail 1 ounce freshly squeezed pomegranate juice (I use bottled) 1 1/2 ounces vodka 1 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (I use bottled/frozen) 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup Ice cubes Orange peel, for garnish In a cocktail shaker, combine pomegranate juice, vodka, grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and ice; shake until well combined. Comments (15)I remember when we lived in the DC suburbs of Maryland that snow could shut the place down. It all depends on how much snow removal equipment that they have invested in. Some places like Houston clearly don't have much need for any and so keep their fingers crossed rather than spend scarce public dollars. In Chicago, we were used to being able to get around during snowstorms because the plows and salting trucks were out all over and right away. They needed to invest in LOTS of snow removal equipment, and they did....See MoreIt's April 23 ... and it's snowing
Comments (9)WOW that is a lot of snow coming down. Hoping it stops soon. there are HUGE black clouds and bright blue sky. I am going to head out to try and get the mower started and get the lawns mowed before it opens up on me. Praying the mower starts. It says it has a full charge....See More- 8 years ago
