Standard Curtains Too Short or Too Long!
Comments (8)Buy ready-made ones that are too long, and take them to the dry cleaner. Most cleaners have people on staff that sew, and they can hem them for you. If you want to keep the ones you have (and they seem to work fine with the carpeting color, and are okay with the wall color), have them shortened to the bottom of the window, so that the length looks intentional. One other thing you might try, tho this will seem bizarre. Take a panel and turn it upside down, so that you use the bottom hem as the rod pocket. You might have to open a couple of stitches if the side seam overlaps the bottom hem. Put it on the existing rod, and see where the panel hits. I am betting that if the tabs were removed on the now upside-down drape, the length would be right. The drape would also hang so that you didn't have the gaps at the top with part of the trim showing, etc. You could also see if you could do the same thing with the top of the curtain instead, as it appears that there is a wide enough hem there; the only issue might be that the buttons might be sewn through the hem, so you would have to take those off to open the hem. As suggested, you could also add a panel of fabric to the bottom, but if you don't sew at all, it might be a lot to tackle. You can use the iron-on tape to attach it, but you have to be able to cut the fabric correctly and it will have to be hemmed all around - perhaps more time consuming then just flipping the panel over and cutting off the tabs that end up on the bottom....See MoreHelp - Curtains too short
Comments (9)Those are all awesome ideas!! I'm definitely keeping them in mind for my next house (which I'm hoping is sooner than later).Anyway, in my moment of panic (how silly is that?) I lowered the rod, put them on clips and hung. They actually look really beautiful. My friend and I figured that her mom forgot the length and just made a standard size. I also like the puddle effect, but these just skim the floor and they look really nice too. They are on my two living room windows and the fireplace is centered on the wall. The fabric is very lovely and has warmed my room considerably. Much better than the earthy green dupioni panels I made myself. OH, and the fabric was only $3.99/yard!! Thanks to Fabric World in Stone Mountain, GA (hope I can say that here). Oh well, I feel silly for over reacting especially as I'm peeking over my shoulder into the living room. When I get my camera working I'll have to post pics of these and the set that she made for my hideous south facing, full sun palladium window in my bedroom....See MoreStarting from Scratch in a small Multi-purpose room--HELP!
Comments (18)Maybe first decide on how much and how deep the storage has to be. Are you planning to build it in or freestanding? Then the soft furniture. I'd likely end up with a short (< 78") and deepish low sofa (besides the usual suspects check out Interior Define or Article) with a bench seat and two comfy chairs with arms. No one really wants to perch on a seat like the chairs used in the first pic above. Lastly, the small tables etc. Your small (by modern US standards) room could really be a great introduction to your home and your style. But measuring and planning ahead always matters most in these spaces. Of course, you can also get the most impact from colour in them,too;-)...See MoreGuest Bedroom Window Treatments
Comments (57)@privateprivateprivate - - I'm not a fan of throw pillows on beds. There is not one throw pillow on this bed. -The blankets on the bed are all sleeping blankets - one wool blanket and one comforter. Do you find that excessive for winter in the US northeast? -Not one curtain in this room touches the floor. No pooling whatsoever. I'm wondering if you commented on the wrong post?...See Moregraywings123
