Oy Vey - My Dining Room is Looking Like a Patchwork Quilt! Help!
Comments (20)Thank you thank you thank you. Here on New Year's Day, the kids are napping and I just finished painting the lower half of the dining room in Sage Green. It's perfect! It was refreshing to cover up all the golds and reds and purples and tans, etc., and now that the Sage is there I can't imagine it any other way. It's just right. If my hand didn't feel frozen into position I'd start painting the top in Camouflage. The Living Room is going to be Blond Wood, I think. Painting green in there will feel like too much green, and the Blond Wood sample I put up looks really nice and feels very warm. I never would have come up with any of these colors on my own. Thanks so much to everyone for their excellent feedback and guidance!...See Morehelp!!! I need to choose a colour to go in my living-room /dining-room
Comments (25)Sounds like a fireplace re-do might be a longer-term fix. In the meantime, I'd paint the mantle a dark brown, a similar colour to your end tables. It's not trim and shouldn't be white. It pops out too much in the white colour. Another idea that doesn't involve any ripping-out is to go right over the existing mantle using a mantle slipcover in wood. Here's one of many how-to's on the internet. If you stained your brick as well, you could have a whole new look. https://www.fwmadebycarli.com/2011/01/making-of-slip-covered-mantel.html...See MoreAm I crazy to put dining room table against one side of the room?
Comments (12)Have you considered putting the table against the window the long way (see sketch in blue). There would be 40" of walk space if the hearth is 18" into the room. An indoor/outdoor is a great option that will anchor the table, add color as well as be the base for the room. I would also install either a long rod with stationary window panels on either side or short rods on either side of the window. The short rods would also have stationary panels. This will visually complete the windows. I would put an accent chair in the corner on the fireplace wall by the entry with an art piece above. A built-in bookshelf cabinet could be installed to the right of the firelace. Add a focal piece above the fireplace and you're all set!...See MoreI am looking to renovate my living dining area , need suggestions
