fake ebay emails - warning
Comments (12)Watch out for second chance offers, too. I got one once for a JD 214 that I didn't win, saying the original seller had backed out, and my $700 bid was now the high end. I was more than a little suspicious when the seller said he would not charge me for shipping, so I contacted the seller through ebay.com, and gave my phone number. She called me within about three hours saying the tractor had been sold and picked up, don't pay this person a dime, and report him. I sent him a polite but honest email telling him what a low-life drain on society he was, which I'm sure he promptly deleted, but it made me feel better. His email was from kred.com, which I guess allows anyone to set up anonymous accounts, like hotmail. The lesson in the end is that like Castoff said, if ebay or an ebay user wants to get in touch with you, they'll do it through ebay.com, not from some random email account, directly to your personal email account. Also, if it looks too good to be true, it is. No one's going to ship a tractor at a cost of $450 when the sale price is only $700. They also won't sell a three-year-old name-brand CUT with a loader and backhoe for the buy-it-now price of $2,500. Buyer beware!...See MoreQuestion for Gmail Users Near and Far
Comments (1)There appears to be no way with Gmail. If this is for business why don't you use an address set up with your regular internet provider? Then IE has that feature. You could investigate msgtag.com they add something to the message so it immediately reports to you when the email gets opened. In my humble opinion it is one ignorant program, very invasive. One lady sends updates for her web site to me using it but I have never opened her emails since, I use the back door to read her message and modify her site....See MoreFellow Yahoo users!

Comments (8)Debby, thank you. I know there is always some risk, even with a Mac. ;-) The 2005 article in your link refers to a, "... report from anti-virus software vendor Symantec Corp." "... The report was clear to say that while the number of vulnerabilities in Mac OS X is expected to increase, they will likely be outnumbered by vulnerabilities in other operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows, for some time to come." "... Between July 1 and December 31, 2004, Symantec documented 13 vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft IE, nine considered high severity. Six vulnerabilities were reported in Opera and none in Apple's Safari browser." "... The report called the zero number of confirmed Safari vulnerabilities 'somewhat surprising given the increasing popularity of Mac OS X,' but suggested that as the browser grows in usage, so will the attacks." "... Mr. Cole said the classic and basic rules still apply to fend off virus and hacker attacks. 'Keep your operating system up to date, your browser to date and your virus definitions up to date,' he said. 'If you do that, your chances of having problems are minimal.'" I am careful about what I click on, but since most viruses are written to target PCs, I believe my husband's computer is much more liable to have problems with them. We are pretty good about backing up our files on the external hard drive. Come to think of it, I should do that today!...See Moremaddielee
