To fit or not to fit: Fridge suggestions, questions
Comments (2)I had a 30" Liebherr, left opening, installed in our apartment kitchen at the end of a cabinet run against a wall. It worked just fine but the wall was not the full length of the door. I would not want to open a fridge constantly without a handle though I expect someone has paneled a fridge that way somewhere. The issue really is whether the handle would hit the wall and whether it can be opened fully to 90 degrees so the crisper drawers can be fully extended and removed for cleaning. "The wall is on the left" isn't specific enough. Measurements are required and I would want to triple check those against the refrigerator spec sheet. If freestanding, there also needs to be a small amount of clearance on top for ventilation. The water line and plug have location requirements. We had a freestanding fridge made to look like a built in. For a true built in requirements would be on the spec sheet as well. We loved our Liebherr. Quiet and reliable....See Moretime to upgrade my refridgerator, suggestions
Comments (22)thanks kas, they look a little high tech for my remodel but i sent the wife the site. i'll let her check it out. moose i like the samsung as well and i'm pretty sure thats what i'm gonna go with. i'll look into recessing it but honestly i just wanna get it done. being realistic i know it will eat away at me if i don't recess it. in order to recess it, you cut the area out behind the fridge as you would a door way(header etc.)? i guess you have to cut the sill plate too? any thoughts? i was also thinking of leaving a 1" space between the sheet rock and outside wall to at least put some insulation since it's a bareing wall with the garage.all this after i just finished taping before christmas. john...See MoreUsing a marble strip to correct install issues
Comments (9)Sorry, I also don't know your kitchen / story but when I pop over to GW and see the word "marble" I am on it! What I see looks scrumptious. My initial thought was echoed by enduring -- are you sure caulk won't hide it well enough, esp. as the wall / cab (not sure where the pic is) is white, the marble is white-based (you know what I mean), and the caulk will be white. ??? Since I'm not sure where the gap is in relation to your overall pic, I'm concerned having that one itty bitty piece of short marble backsplash will look out of place and scream "there was an issue here!" And by itty bitty, I mean both that one gapped section as well as the entire back side of your peninsula in relation to what looks like a large kitchen. Actually, my initial thought was: why isn't the fabricator cutting a new piece to correct this, esp. as it's something about which you were v. clear and he, evidently, understood that? That's really what I'm wondering. But if you're happy with it I'd really recommend trying caulk. I also have a white cab / white (Calacatta xtra) marble (counter & backsplash) kitchen and I love it, have loved it for four years. We used a remnant (as we had to buy the slabs) in our powder room where we also have the curb, but in that setting it makes visual sense. (But marble always makes visual sense! ha ha) Happy move and good luck....See MoreIssues with cabinet install, should they have shimmed or scribed?
Comments (29)Before I realized the extent of the shims issue and that it was an installation problem, I asked about molding and he said floor guys should do it. I told him I was worried about the paint matching, otherwise my husband could probably do it, so he said he'd paint them for us, then we can install. I haven't pushed back yet, as I wanted to make sure we are in the right here. Plus, we still would need to paint over any nail holes to touch up. They actually paint the cabinets at their shop, there is no factory. These are full custom cabinets. I'm going to tell him we aren't comfortable installing, and don't feel that it's our responsibility to do so. It's not straight forward angles anyways. His response above was to me asking if there were any plans to actually cover the shims, as the cabinets look unfinished. I asked about doing a longer toe kick, and that's what his response was, just using shoe molding, something he has already acknowledged that they had no plans to do until I asked. I'm just shocked they were actually planning to leave the cabinets looking like this and had no intention of coming back out....See MoreDavid Underwood
