When should I pay contractor for sink fabrication
Comments (10)Hi miles661: I've already paid $7,000 (two installments of four installments) for the project which is $9,800 overall. I paid for the granite slabs separately, directly to the retailer as required by my contractor. He was due to install the granite today but has since pushed it back to Friday but says when he brings the granite today he wants me to pay for the fabrication that was carried out i.e. one sink cutout, there's no other fabrication. So my concern is that I'm paying for this fabrication which he measured without seeing it in place -- I would prefer a lump sum after the granite is installed (which is the next payment milestone). I don't know whether he's done a good job or not. (And I would like the additional incentive to be sure he doesn't no-show again. He's already 30min late...) Thanks...See MorePaying contractor for unfinished work
Comments (11)I wrecked a $300.00 faucet on a $2,500.00 sink replacement job. I would not allow the customer to pay her $2,000.00 balance or even partially (although she offered) until the replacement faucet arrived and I had successfully installed it. Only after she was delighted did I collect the $1,700.00 balance due. I completed another replacement on Wednesday, but wasn't able to refinish her Corian tops until yesterday. I collected nothing additional until then and again refused partial payment. No partials. Sit on all the money. I would be ashamed to ask for a penny from an unhappy customer. Comments (5)Find a couple plaster companies in your area to look at and give you an assessment. NO finish should crack within 10 days. Pure nonsense. The finger pointing has already begun. No one taking responsibility. Don't proceed with any fix until you get opinions in writing from other plaster contractors. And certainly do not pay the contractor until you have a written resolution. Continue to document with any photos and any record of calls or any method of contacts to all involved. Dates, times, content of conversation, etc... Keep a record of your water testing as well. Proper water treatment on new plaster is paramount....See MoreHow much to pay contractor before completion?
Comments (8)@WestCoast Hopeful @Jon Alan @Tim Cleary thank you all for your input. He didn't specify anything in the contract aside from the initial payment. The project has been a disaster and it's taken more than twice as long as it was expected to and we are at the point where if they left now we would have partial floors installed, electrical wired but not hooked up, doors not yet installed, plaster and painting to still be completed, shingles to be put on and painted, closets to still be completed and a kitchen to still be installed. We have paid 59% of the project at this point and he's requesting another payment to bring us to 84%. Based on his 'actual' spending so far he's used 77% of the budget and he expects to be right around budget (or so he said although I'm sure that'll change). I don't mind paying him but it seems odd to pay him 84% of the budget when I feel like with all those pieces not yet completed we aren't close to being at 84% completion....See Morenoreenrodriguez
