That is suuuuum wall! I confess, I'd keep the wall and the rocks. But if you hate it, I guess I can understand.

I agree with auntthelma. I would embrace both walls and work with them. You could consider a new ceiling fan/fixture.

I would keep the stone wall but the wood wall would be gone...soon...for me.

Here are the adjoining rooms. I have been going back and forth about my feelings on the wood wall. Maybe feel there is too much of a red tone in the wood. Appreciate all of the responses and ideas!

Yes! and it extends into the kitchen too, but only on the bottom half of the wall. And the kitchen/dining room has brick floors. Just a lot of different materials/patterns going on.

I don't think it would take much to bring the fire place wall up to speed. The fireplace screen/doors looks dated. I like the idea of doing a wash over the rocks too. As for the wood wall next to the rock wall, I'm on the fence. If you don't love it and can get rid of it without too much expense, I would.

I would remove the wood paneling from the kitchen, but keep in on the wall to the left of the fireplace.

You should also look at replacing your fireplace, the brass and shape make it look dated. Talk to your local retailer for options.
