HELP! NEED STONE FABRICATOR IN NJ {BERGEN, ESSEX OR PASSAIC COUNTY}

As you can see from the photo, we are at the mid point in our reno when we are required to have our countertops installed. We know exactly what we want, Pure White #1141 Caesarstone. The problem is that every stone fabricator I have found & researched in our region of New Jersey area in the surrounding 3 counties all have quite a few bad reviews associated with them. I found those bad reviews either here on Houzz or on Yelp.

We can't seem to find a single stone fabricator with legit good reviews. We have visited a bunch of these places & found red flags popping up all over the place with most of them. After three weeks of looking, I'm pretty sure our contractor will soon be running out of patience waiting for us to have our countertops installed so that he can complete our kitchen.If you can please recommend a fabricator that you have had a great experience with and are happy with your countertop installation., we would be most grateful!! I am the person who started this thread, I'm wondering if anyone has noticed it at all due to I haven't yet received any responses. Perhaps I didn't post this thread under the right subject matter category. I could really use a recommendation for a great fabricator in our area. We are in Northern N.J. We're flexible regarding location of the fabricator because we're very close to 4 different counties, Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Wayne.

Your problem is easily fixed. Hire the best of the worst with NO MONEY DOWN, payment in full upon satisfactory completion only.

Call Stu Rosen, please. He's got to know someone. When Stu speaks, everyone else in the industry has their note pad out.

Welcome to the East Coast, Michael in Chicago. I've travelled to and enjoyed many states, but I think my home state, NJ, is a pretty cool state. For your consideration, some information I gleaned from a talk on native plants presented yesterday to Monmouth County Master Gardeners: New Jersey is the third smallest state in the Union, but has 1,910 vascular plant species - more than states 11 times its size. New Jersey has five physiographic provinces, very rare. In the northwest is the ridge & valley region, then, stretching in bands essentially running northeast to southwest, the highlands region (with conditions similar to central Ohio) and piedmont region; below those, the inner coastal plain to the west, and, to the east, the outer coastal plain (with conditions similar to central Virginia). New Jersey is at a crossroads, or intersection, in the plant world. This is where southern plants pushing the limits often reach their northernmost limits ... and where northern plants reach their southernmost. There are also species here in NJ that are also found in Canada ... but not in New York or Connecticut, as their ancestors were carried down on the leading edge of the glacier, which stopped here in New Jersey. For anyone who likes to garden, this is pretty good stuff.

jillinnj that's a great link. It points out a factor that I think we keep missing here with our comparisons and justifiable rants. The tax on a property is relative to the income of the owner. The house highlighted in the original post has high property tax, but if the owner income is proportionate the taxes are not a burden. My original question was what do you pay as a *proportion* of income because I think that's a more realistic indicator of impact on lifestyle. I'm wondering if people in NJ, for example, are more likely to be house poor because of the ratio of income to tax or if the people in TN are living a relatively easier life with more *proportionately* discretionary income. Everything is relative. My DH could not earn the same income he currently does in a small town in TN but an equal house in terms of size and amenities would probably cost significantly less and be taxed far less. It *could* have a significant impact on lifestyle. Quality of life is a very subjective qualifier - I might hate small town life in TN or I might hate city life in NJ but I don't know of another way to get the same sense of what it costs to live where. Certainly there will always be very high incomes in low cost of living areas but not likely to be the norm. But in some places a property owner really has to be in a high income bracket nationally just to be able to afford housing. It's not easy to make this an apples to apples comparison.

NY/NJ Granite Yards?

There's a few of them all within relatively quick driving distance in Middlesex County, NJ. There's Bedrock Granite in Edison - very popular & used by lots of people locally. Also in Edison, at 35 Brunswick Avenue is MS International, whic I haven't been to yet, byt I've been told they have a very large selection. Quite close (about 10 minutes drive) you can go to All Granite & Marble in South Plainfield. They've gotten sort of a bad reputation on these boards by some people, but others have been very satisfied. I stopped in there, and they've got quite a huge selection and a nice showroom. And you don't need an appointment. Then, as some others have mentioned there is OHM International 195 Prospect Plains Rd. Monroe Township , NJ 08831 (the same OHM that another poster mentioned as being in Cranbury. It IS in Cranbury, but for looking up purposes, I think their mailing address in Monroe Township.) The last time I went to OHM (in December) they were building a showroom, but it won't be ready for another couple of months, but (you need an appointment) they've got loads of slabs to look at. There is also a place near OHM (as long as you're in the neighborhood) called Sakura (?? not really sure about the name) on 535 North. If you want, you can email me directly and I'll help you plan the best route for your trip. You might even see me in one of these places - I'll be the haggard-looking woman, with glazed over eyes, mumbling incoherently about white granite.

Thanks lynn2006 and aliris19--love the pun, aliris! We don't have flowers all the time lynn (wouldn't that be nice though?), but I should have taken a new kitchen pic with my beautiful Valentine's Day bouquet--DH drove to the store that Friday morning (after, during? the snowstorms we had) to pick them up for me! Flaten, I have a couple sets of Chilewich placemats (one set I got at Century 21 for something like $4 each--I couldn't believe it when I got home and googled them and saw that they retailed for $20/ea!), so I know how nice some of their materials can be! Here are some pics I have in my PB showing a few of our shades: Guest Bathroom: MB (reflected in the mirror--you can see how sheer that particular fabric is): Guest Bedroom (you can see part of the shade): The shades in the Guest Bedroom and in our "Spare Room" are the prettiest ones we have fabric-wise (IMO), and those have the most texture, too. The shades in the two bathrooms, and our bedroom are solid color, flat weave, and are fairly sheer during the day--we wanted to maximize our ability to look out the windows during the day, while leaving the shades down (on nice days, with the windows open, we raise the shades to the height of the open portion of the window). We have room darkening micro-pleat shades mounted behind the screen shades in both bedrooms. We lower those at night, and raise them fully in the morning when we get up. Privacy micro-pleat shades are available as well, BTW. I haven't seen them in person, but would think they allow more light into the room. Some light does seep in with the room darkening micro-pleats--there are pinholes up/down the length of the shades for the strings that help to raise and lower them. FYI, they do NOT make the Roman Shade style Designer Screen Shades anymore (like the two in our bathrooms, and the ones in our office and FR which are not shown here). They are only available now as a completely flat shade (like the one in our Guest Bedroom). They offer a range of fabrics; from very sheer to fairly opaque, completely smooth through textured, etc. HTH!

I wish I read your post sooner, but I read your post too late. I've been so busy with the reno I didn't see you comment until 'after' we put HALF $$ DOWN on a countertop, we didn't know any better.... it is with a fabricator we found who was recommended by 3 people we know, but this fabricator has several bad reviews online so I guess as it turns out we did sort of go with "the best of the worst" as you said. As I write this our quartz is coming in to their shop tomorrow so they say, and then will be fabricated & installed in our kitchen soon. I am nervous because the fabricator had initially suggested & wrote down on our contract an edge profile which I didn't want. I thought about it after ward because it didn't seem quite right when I looked at the example he pointed out which he had insisted was the most modern one, and we went back there and caught the problem before they fabricated thankfully.

Turns out I had wanted a 'Polished edge' and the fabricator wrote down and told me 'eased edge' was most modern, even after I told him I wanted the most modern edge available, which to me means a 'polished edge' which is the most square. The one he pointed out & told me was the "Most modern edge available" was eased. So now we have changed the order to 'Polished edge'.

This same fabricator also has fabricated two marble floor transitions for our kitchen doorways and they have been delivered to us already, & right after the men left I noticed that the two transitions are not the same length in relation to how they fit into each doorway, so we are going back there to try to get that issue resolved. Unfortunately I already had to sign for the transitions when they delivered them & didn't catch the issue until after they left. My fear is if they possibly didn't get the simple little floor transitions right, what will they do to my countertops when they fabricate them??? Reno is a nerve wracking experience..... Keep your fingers crossed for me that my countertops come out correctly please! --Thanks!

Eased edge is a polished edge. And it WILL chip.

When a doorway is out of square, and many are, the lengths will be different.
