What is the purpose of landscape fabric in French drain?
Comments (4)i prefer subsurface drain to french drain but they both describe the same solution to a drainage problem. i also suggest using non-woven geotextile instead of landscape fabric for its better drainage handling and filtering qualities. do not use woven geotextile as it is manufactured for its strength as an underlayment rather than filtering qualities. non-woven geotextile (probably light-duty for your application) is placed on all four sides of the trench that contains the perforated pipe and gravel. this is to keep the fine particles in the soil from moving into the voids of the aggregate and clogging it, allowing water to reach the voids and move into the pipe perforations. remember to keep the grade of your pipe positive. doesn't have to be much of a grade and even level will work but not negative....See MoreThis has Oriental images and the shape is odd. What is its purpose?
Comments (8)No metal at all and smooth edges, no spots where metal may have been. It appears to be complete but is bewildering as to purpose for this shape. It seems much sturdier than papier-mache but looks like it somewhat while having a bit of depth to the images. I have seen some photos of lacquerware and that is more of what it looks like. The inside appears to be wood but lightweight and has beautiful carvings in it that are repetitive. The inside is a lighter color if it is wood and looks like a stain on darker edges. Looks like a lot of work went into it. Images are of birds, flowers people and a pagoda on the outside with a black background....See MoreWhat is the purpose of each ingredient in the 5:1:1 and gritty mixes?
Comments (4)The properties that you are looking to adjust and manage: air porosity, water retention, perched water height, durability, pH, nutrient holding capacity and nutrient release capacity (both kind of captured by CEC), weight, cost and availability. Organic and clay based product tend to have high CEC, water retention and lower Ph. Granite, perlite, lava, pumice are high durability and introduce much needed macro/micro pores for adjusting air porosity. In 511 where the bulk is bark, perlite prevents stratification since bark tends to be flatish and tend sit flat on each other without some round stuff breaking it up. Peat has high CEC and water retention that I think serves to offset the perlite's lack of it....See MoreWhat is the purpose of this structure?
Comments (25)The issue with the dryer was because the exhaust was close to being totally blocked with lint. This isn't making sense. I don't see how the dryer is exhausting via the chimney. It appears that the dryer is in the basement, that the vent is going thru the rim joist and that a louvered cover is installed. I can see daylight thru the cover. Absent is any elbow that would turn the exhaust to vent up thru the chimney. (And a louvered cover would not be used at the top of a chimney--where I glimpsed what looks like a regular round vent topper.) No, it is not OK to continue using the current venting. At a minimum, the flexible plastic/ mylar vent needs to be replace with rigid vent. Your description is too confusing to advise beyond that. ETA, that I think Greg's guess that the chimney bottom is open and that the dryer vent cover is either underneath the chimney or the vent is exhausting near the bottom of the chimney....See MoreDH
