Best wall color with dark pallet wall and fireplace update

Updating daylight basement with new paint and darker stained pallet wall. Thoughts on paint colors. Also ideas on an already painted fireplace that is on the opposite end of the space. Looking for any advice. Wanting rustic with a touch of industrial. Wine and Jack D fans. It is a He-She cave.

Well, I am just starting the project and understand I need to paint before I put up the pallet wall. This is the inspiration picture and will be this color. I will put up a long horn steer mount on the pallet wall the fire place is identical to this but without the mantle. This is our living room.

I would paint the walls a pale but warm blue, whitewash the fireplace, put up cream-colored, thicker curtains with a white or cream pole, have blue and soft red pillows and do what you think is best with the bookcase. I would leave that for last. Right now the contrast between the lower and upper half of your room is too great, and the white looks boring. You could paint the walls a warm cream if you're against the blue wall color. I wouldn't put anything on top of the mantel or the bookcase and hang the snowshoes elsewhere. Also remove the two items off the base of the fireplace. In a smaller space you don't want clutter, and whatever is there should be meaningful and beautiful.

I will see what can be done with molding to improve the bookshelves. I'm not sure how difficult it will be to remove those stick on mirrors, but will check on that also. I didn't realize there might be stick on wallpaper to just cover them up. The walls will be painted a warm off white color, not yet selected, and I'm wondering if the bookcases/mantle should be painted the same color as the walls to blend in, or white for a contrast. What about the fireplace brick color? Right now, with the exception of the white bricks, everything else, including ceiling, is painted the same color Glidden Antique White. I'm looking for a slightly deeper off white color this time though. I'm finding some of my samples, of various brands, have appeared too yellow on the walls so far.

IMO all the paint in the world will not make your sapce feel airy without getting to work on better lighting. IMO if you want an airy feeling get rid of the blinds that are blocking natural light. I hate beige for a neutral IMO much better to choose white. You like blk and wht but you have a huge beige floor that is driving everything.I also would like to see more of the space pics taken from further back. IMO you already have beighe walls so why not just leave them. Before choosing any color get to work on the lighting change all the bulbs you have to LEDs in 4000K that will mimic bright natural light . Then see where you still need light and add the same LED s in those spots, lighting is a bout layers so ceiling lights , floor and table lamps are those different layers of lighting. This really important where you want your whites to still look white at night .

Your inspiration photo is handsome...but it has a much lighter floor and much lighter walls. And the light filled VAULT that highlights the wood is something you are missing. If you attempt a match like your the inspiration you are going to create a very dark looking space. The oak is very 'heavy'. That's a lot of trim that will be stained. And to get it to look good, you will have to go dark. Not medium....dark. Your floors are quite dark (we rank them as 'dark') which means your tone on tone match is going to be dark. Are you leaving the houses trim WHITE? I would keep the trim and the stringers white. I like the idea of the hand rail matching or being DARKER than the flooring. Your newel posts could be white - same as the trim. Or BLACK. Just be aware you have Red Oak. The red is going to be tough to get away from. You can use Jacobean to get rid of the red AND to darken the stain. But be careful with all the heavy trim work on the stairs. They are going to be powerful if you go dark. It will look very, very heavy.

ok,,but can't we see the room? I understand the pallet wall isn't in yet, but it would be nice to see the actual room layout. whats on the floor? what furniture is in there? hows the lighting? lets see the actual fireplace in the basement.

BTW, I love this black fireplace you've done in your living room. great colors. If I may make one suggestion? remove that white mantle, it's too traditional looking, and replace w/a wood one stained dark like your pallet colors

That wood would be perfect downstairs. The upstairs is more traditional and the hubs wants to keep the white, but downstairs, I really like this idea. I will take some pictures tomorrow to follow up, we are redoing pretty much everything from lighting to arrest. Right now the floor is concrete, furniture is dark brown. Half the room is carpeted, the tv half, but that will all go away. Updates to come tomorrow. Thank you!
