Hardy Evergreen Citrus for Zone 7b?
Comments (17)It was about 10 inches tall (little thing) and sort of bushy. I did not protect it the first year, and it died down to 6 inches, but now it is just over 2'6"(slow growing, but growing). Some leaves drop in winter. I try to cover it as much as possible with straw, bending it down to fit. Whatever part that was growing dies in winter. This ranges from less than an inch to a couple, the colder the fall the better so that the tree can go dormant before the real cold....See MoreMeyer Lemon in ground, leaf miner and other pests
Comments (34)Oh my goodness I saw seed packets online for those California poppies! I wanted to purchase them so bad since they were one of the few offered that didn't have a dark center. A botanical garden near me grows that type (I think) and I wanted them the first time I laid eyes on those beautiful petals. I was about to splurge on flower seeds last weekend, especially on that poppy variety, but my boyfriend did a good job helping me hold back my impulses. I'm still trying to narrow down all the seeds I put in my cart Thank you for showing us what they look like! It confirms the variety I've been looking for. And the way you grew them looks amazing! They look like 2 separate herb bushes that somehow grew huge flowers...See MoreMeyer Lemon Lemon tree help!
Comments (8)Thanks for the replies folks. The coating is simply water as we had given it its occasional spraying before the picture there is no signs of any pests or anything of that sort. Do trees require more water once they start bearing fruit? Wonder if the old water schedule of roughly 1 soaking per 2 weeks during winter had become too little after blooming and fruiting... Also from your experience how often and much should we fertilize. We currently do a couple of table spoons of nitrate rich fertilizer every 2 months. we have a keffir lime next do it that is doing wonderful with similar treatment. Is the lemon just more fickle and susceptible to temp and water etc? thanks for your thoughts and advice....See MoreAnyone growing Owari Satsuma in ground in zone 7b?
Comments (25)im growing Meyer lemon and Armstrong Satsuma in ground here in bixby ok. 7a. My technique is similar and based off of the guy Dave mentioned above. 25 C9 lights come on at 38F. I added a small heater that I only use when outside is below 15. The lights can maintain about 15 degrees above outside on their own. So far we have had several nights below 10. Covering is 2 layers of white frost cloth when its below 38 but above 20. Below 20 I add 1 plastic tarp and one green frost cloth. Water bottles are there to just help buffer the temps and add a little heat. Meyer is in full bloom right now. I plan to graft Miho and Dekopon/Sumo to the armstrong. mike...See Moresabine_farm
