I completely understand, except it would be the iPad for me. I use my phone as a backup. I do everything on this thing! I haven't used a computer in years. Shamefully, I have four iPads and one phone charged always!

It's a great program. I used to be with AT&T and my bill was over $100 just for me. Project Fi, you only pay for what you use, and it's pretty cheap. Mine is never over $30 a month, though most of my data usage is on our wireless. You do have to buy the phone, though. But I've more than paid for it in about 3 months of savings.

You also pay the same rates in different countries.

I love my laptop! No smart phone. Still have a flip and it's rarely turned on. Dh has an iPad, but seems to prefer his laptop.

I have the iPhone 7s Plus. Sadly this will be my last Iphone. I REFUSE to spend over $1,000 on a phone. Ridiculous. I will definitely find a cheaper brand when this dies. I just need something that texts & has internet. I don’t do anything fancy.

I got the iPhone to use FaceTime to keep up with family. It was a novelty. None of us use it anymore.

I used to use an iPhone but switched to Android when I switched to Project Fi. The iPhone was better in some ways, especially their auto-correct when typing and texting! I spend a lot more time correcting my typos. But I don't mind the Android.

They are running a promotion now for $100 in credits, so it brings the basic phone down to $299. Plus I'm getting $250 back from Google, so all in all, I only have to pay $50 for a new phone. Not bad. They have some fancy ones too but I don't need anything fancy.

Je, we just use Facebook's version of video calling if we want to do that. Seems to work fine.

Am I understanding this correctly, that you can use your data when you travel internationally? That would be so awesome. DH has a google pixel, so he could use it on this plan. Right now he uses smart talk. I need a new phone, and was going to go with Iphone X, but maybe a pixel 2?

I believe so, if it's one of the 135+ countries they list! I haven't tried it though but I think you pay the same amount no matter where you are.

We're so old fashioned! I use the laptop most of the time. Why else did I learn to touch-type? We just ditched our land line and added a $75 flip phone to our hand-me-down Samsung. These two cells are on our DS's family plan. We reimburse him his monthly cost: $15 per cell.

Chi, yah $50 for a phone is amazing! That’s definitely the route I go when this dies. I will not spend $1,000 on a new phone. That’s insane to me. But to each there own.

Son has me checking simple cell phone.

In the meantime ... I owe Bell about 40 to 50 bucks for about a month of service ... but no usage possible.

Chi- I'm on project fi as well. Which phone do you have? I've got a 5x right now but I'm thinking I may need to get a new phone soon.

My Nexus 5x was the one that died on me. Apparently it's a known/common problem so watch out for it. It just gets into a boot loop - they aren't supporting it or fixing them anymore. I just bought the Moto X4, mostly because it was the cheapest. I don't need anything fancy.

My phone was still under warranty, barely (January) and I'm pleased they are offering a full refund. I thought I would have to send it in to get it fixed.

Chi, I don't have a phone right now but hope to get one in the New Year. Does the X4 have large numbers/letters? I need something affordable but have trouble seeing the small screens.

I haven't received it yet, so I'm not sure. But most phones have font adjusters, so that might help. I'm honestly not a phone person but maybe some more knowledgeable people can chime in!

Thanks, Chi. I am not a phone person either, but feel I should get one for emergencies particularly since my car has seen better days.

If you just want it for emergencies, you probably don't need a smartphone. You can get other phones for cheaper. You might like a smartphone once you try it, though! :)

I like it so far, though I'm a bit creeped out how much of my "stuff" Google remembered and imported back in, haha. I have a new sim card but all my contacts, old voicemails, phone logs, bookmarks, websites...all there now. I assumed I'd have to start over.

Chi- that is the amazingly wonderful thing about using Android over iPhone. In the future, in case you didn't know, you can log in to your Gmail on a computer and you will have all of your contacts, calendar, etc.

That isn't because of project Fi, it's because of Android. All of that stuff is tied to your Gmail account.

I've been saved more than once because of that handy ability. Very useful when you have a toddler who decides to "give your phone a bath!!!"
