Best Pepper Mill to make pepper powder
Comments (5)I run my whole pods through a food processor first to make coarse flakes. Then I run that through the cheepest coffee grinders I can find. I use 3 coffee grinders at a time because they heat up and will burn out if you do too many batches too close together. Warm powder sticks to the grinder. Right now I have a very old Mr. Coffee that the overheating gizmo(heat sensitive cuircut breaker) had to be removed because it burned out and the grinder wouldn't run,I also have a new Mr.Coffee that has a 30 second timer in it that only lets it run for 30 second intervals. It also has several speeds and grind settings. It holds more than my other 2 grinders. It says to only grind 3 sucessive batches and then let it cool off. The cannister has a plastic piece inside that you can rotate to loosen any powder thats stuck to the sides. It kinda works as advertised on the box. The third one I have is a Black and Decker smart grind. It's smaller than the other Mr. Coffee grinders and the top and power switch are strange. It grinds ok but I won't get another one thats made by any company if it is designed like this one is.It doesn't hold enough,it's hard to load and remove the top. I've ground several gallon jars of powder with these and the only one thats wearing out is the old Mr. Coffee thats 5 years old give or take.I definately abused it from the first day I had it. Now that I switch between 3 grinders while making powder I don't have any overheating problems anymore and between dumping the powder and refilling the grinders they have plenty of time to cool off between grinds. Most of the coffee grinders were pretty cheep to buy.I think I paid about $35.00 at Wally World for both the new Mr. Coffee and the black and decker about a year ago maybe 2 years. The first one I think I paid about $15.00 for at Target. Thats my story and I'm Sticking to it. :)...See Moregreat pepper grinders?
Comments (5)FWIW, both the above are excellent, but I like the Peppermate for the following reasons: 1. don't have to grip the top to grind - a big plus for arthritics 2. has a "catcher" to hold ground pepper if you want to measure, and 3. its a fairly fast grinder windje http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002IEOPC/qid=1112624146/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_etk-kitchen/102-0879365-6396111?v=glance&s=kitchen&n=284507 Here is a link that might be useful: Link to Peppermate...See Moreneed pepper grinder for large volume
Comments (26)Shannon, Check out the Unicorn Peppermills. The Magnum Plus is rated the best by Cooks Illustrated. They rated it the best back in July/August of 2001 and again in January 2005. Quote........ "We have yet to find a pepper mill that can approach the Unicorn Magnum Plus, winner of our July/August 2001 test; it offers the ultimate in grind quality and speed. But it is expensive at $45. It turns out that the Magnum Plus is an overgrown version of the $31 Magnum, which seemed worth a try. The 5 3/4-inch Magnum grinds just as quickly and effectively as the 9-inch Magnum Plus. In the test kitchen, we really appreciate the huge 15-tablespoon capacity of the Magnum Plus, but the Magnum's 7-tablespoon capacity is fine for home use. All in all, for cooks who want a less expensive option than the Magnum Plus, the unassuming Magnum a great choice." Sometime last week I lost my favourite Travel Size grinder that I kept in my purse. Today I ordered one of the Unicorn mini mills and the Magnum Plus. A girl can never have to many pepper mills. LOL! Ann...See MoreSalt & Pepper grinders
Comments (6)We have a wooden one that looks like a bottle of wine, the "label" is laser etched. We've been using it for about 25 years now, I use it every single day and never had a problem with it. It has a metal mechanism. Every salt mill I've ever tried just didn't work well. So we use Diamond Crystal Kosher salt, just keep a little bowl of it on the counter near the stove, next to the pepper mill....See MoreUser
