Using an arcylic shower base versus a mud bed tiled floor
Comments (8)we decided to hot mop our floor and do a mud bed to keep the house period accurate but i ran across this great alternative. i'd consider this if we didn't go mud. We are using Hydroban on the wall, as Bill has suggested. it's called Kerdi and many people seem to rave about it. I imagine the resident tile experts Bill and Mongo have words of wisdom about how well it works. I seriously considered it but hubby wanted tar... it has not been fun. Hot mop people are in short supply here in LA. I'm really hating this job right now. All the jackhammering and demo involved in changing a pan is horrible. If there is an alternative that works as well, i think it's worth considering and this stuff below looks like it may be. They have a kits and sell a fabric you can cut custom. Browse the site and check out the fabric, i imagine it would be great to do a curbless shower or a bathroom european or japanese style with a drain in the center. Seems like this would make it possible, just create a full wet room. I'd love that with a soaking tub... I need a soaking tub after this nightmare... Here is a link that might be useful: kerdi...See MoreUnheated Sunroom Flooring Concrete Base
Comments (3)I don't know about over concrete, can you paint/texture the concrete or make it otherwise pretty? We had an unheated sunroom in WI, where it can be -40 or 90 degrees. We put in porcelain tile, and it worked well. Depending on how you use the room, you could put in indoor/outdoor carpet, vinyl, tile, etc.......See MoreTub/Shower drain leak on concrete slab floor

Comments (4)I have a shower pan in my bathroom and a tiled floor in my girls' hall bath. I like the shower pan better: - It is solid and even underfoot. The tile is grouted, and the tiles around the round drain are a little uneven. The pan is going to be perfect, whereas the tile is subject to the installer's skill, and no tile with a round drain is going to be perfect. - The slope of the pan is ideal, whereas the tiled floor could have been sloped a little more. - The pan is easier to clean. - A pan will have a longer lifespan, and if it develops a problem you'll be able to see it. On the other hand, pans are only available for standard sized showers -- and yours may or may not be standard....See More- 6 years ago
