Sound-Proofing Basement Bedroom?
Comments (5)Depends on how much you want to spend and how "Sound Proof" you would like it to be. Here is a good link explaining STC and to what level you are trying to accomplish. http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/soundproofing101/understanding-stc/ Most of our clients, we end up insulating the wall, installing sound board, and two layers of sheetrock with a sound channel. the small details in this are important also. Such as if there is a door in the wall, etc....See MoreDecor for awkward master bedroom wall
Comments (40)Thank you, pennydesign! I think I'm going to look at floating headboards with integrated nightstands. Something like this maybe I can chalk paint and put some better drawer pulls on. And still love the simple hanging pendant light idea. Kind of gives a blank slate for the above bed decor I'll have to play with a bit more. And definitely some nice Roman shades for the windows....See MoreBeige/yellow bedroom walls. What colour palette would work best?
Comments (5)I don't know your exact shade of color-everybody has their own mental image when hearing yellow/beige-but as somebody who lived with yellow walls..they're actually pretty versatile. I went with a vibrant palette of yellow-brick red-aubergine. Then as time went I added more colors in patterns etc. Blue would work of course. Maybe cornflower blue? Maybe turquoise? White and a bit of black. Greens since they work everwhere..bring a plant and you have a green:) But I also loved adding chartreuse. Look at lot of inspiration(can be decor but can also be art, or nature, and whatnot), and you'll feel what clicks with you the most. Decide what you like more -sharper contrasts? softer ones? As little contrast as possible? Do you want your room to be more upbeat or more quiet? there's no one right answer, we all are different and your personal reaction to colors and their relationships should govern your choices. And always strive to vary your textures. Then the room will be interesting even if you go with a very tight, almost monochromatic color palette....See MoreSoundproofing Bedroom Wall-Different Options? $600??
Comments (9)From what I can read, Green Glue and MLV are different critters. MLV can be slapped right up on a wall, and it will reduce noise transmission. I've often wondered how it would work to put up MLV and then hang heavy drapes over it. Maybe someday I'll try that for a budget home studio. Nail some furring strips to the wall, hang the MLV, then add drywall over that, and the results are going to be much better. Obviously, that will be more expensive and more involved. It will also look nicer. A lot of folks seem to think Green Glue is miraculous stuff. I can't say. I haven't actually seen it used. I think it's a relatively new development, maybe the last 10-15 years, and most of the soundproofing work I watched was in the 1980s and 1990s. Now that I look at it, it seems a bit pricey to me at $45 per 4x8 drywall sheet. But I can't really compare that to what traditional methods cost because I wasn't paying the bills for that soundproofing, my bosses were. :) I get the impression that it decouples vibration in much the same way resilient strips do. On the other hand, MLV is a sound blocker. Both decoupling and blocking have their place in soundproofing. I still think your best bet will be working with a contractor who's familiar with soundproofing techniques. A good one should be able to analyze the nature of the sounds you want to block out and select the best material and technique for the job. But if you're looking for a low cost job, probably any decent drywall hanger can either hang another layer of plain drywall with Green Glue behind it, or a layer of Quiet Rock. Either way, you're going to have more noise reduction than just rock wool can give you....See MoreDavidR
