How do you get spotless floors near baseboards?
Comments (17)We have 2 large in-out dogs who blow hair, and the husband without hair forgets to remove shoes after yard work, golf, tennis (clay courts.. yuk). Kids are grown and gone but always welcomed along with their pets and the world's most wonderful grandkids who NEVER leave a mess? Dream on. I could not live without central vac.(extra long hose). Remove floor attachment and put a cheap plastic extension (no bristles)and run it along the baseboards. Bristles collect stuff, and it takes time to clean them. Buy extra extensions to reach tall ceilings to get cobwebs and ceiling fixtures. We have no carpets. I remember the place where carpets met baseboards: UGH. Where we installed new stone floors, the baseboards are the same stone, cut to go 6" to 8" up the walls. No more painted baseboards that get messed up when floors are cleaned. 50 yrs. housekeeping + kids (20 yrs. working) I've learned that using the right materials when renovating/building, and finding the right ways to clean those materials makes life so much nicer. I still have questions about steam floor cleaners. No sure it would be worth the $$....See MoreHow do I make baseboards work with this vanity?
Comments (10)Install the baseboard, slide the vanity against the baseboard. Mark where the round part of the foot touches the baseboard. Use a Dremel and cut out a circular hole just large enouigh to make room for the foot to fit in the hole. You could use a little spackle to fill in any gaps. Or, cut off the outside of the feet to allow room for the base molding....See MoreDo you follow the trends? Or avoid them?
Comments (30)I avoid them but also keep an eye out for new, better products. I am going with: white (and black) appliances - not trendy a freestanding garbage can - not trendy chrome instead of nickel or specifically, polished nickel or ORB - not trendy slab front cabinets with 1940s hardware - not trendy small tiles in my kitchen floor and def not wood - not trendy 1930s-40s lighting instead of hi hats - not trendy 1940 Kohler sink with built in sideboard, not stainless, copper, farm sink, etc... - not trendy microwave sitting on a shelf - not trendy skylights - no longer trendy counters will be all a dark gray/black/white marble, same on island and perimeters - not trendy no glazing, antiquing, distressing etc... for the cabinets - not trendy linoleum in our den extension - def not trendy OTOH... will have open shelves over my whole sink area - trendy pendant lights over my island (whole phrase is trendy) open floor plan - trendy chimney hood over the island - trendy reeded glass in the glass cabinets over peninsula - semi-trendy separate fridge and freezer - trendy, but they will be white, so it is a wash, lol mostly drawers in cabinets - trendy I think the bottom line is to get what you enjoy and is functional. I avoid trends if it is not going to spite my face.... If a trend is worthy, then I consider it. I think it is best if you do the kitchen so that it does not scream the year you did it in. I'd rather someone come in and not know for sure it is a new kitchen (unless they have been in my house before and seen my ugly small one, lol). I'd like it to fit in with my house and be timeless. When I choose clothing (as in decorating), I avoid trends for the main stuff but will get an accessory or 2 that is along a trend if it looks good on me and I like it. I would never want to look like a sheep that is following what every a,b,c & d list celebrity is doing! hth...See MoreHelp! Y repose gray look baby blue?what can I do now or avoid nxt time
Comments (10)It’s the orientation of the room that changes paint colors. For instance, if the room is getting North light, you need a gray with a lavender undertone; Repose Gray has a lavender undertone. So, from what direction is the light coming? I also think cutting the ceiling color is not the way to go in your room. Before you do anything, paint the ceiling the same white as the woodwork, but in a flat finish. If repainting isn’t an option, get some blue/green fabrics and hold them against the wall. It should make the walls look more gray. It need not mean a new sofa (unless it’s blue), wall art, throw pillows, rug in blues will help....See Moremike_kaiser_gw
