We have a set of 3 windows in each bedroom that are different heights as seen in the pic. All with baseboard heaters below.

In babys new room, we have fabric black out accordion shades we can pull down for light blocking, but I was wondering if I could put something up to soften the room a bit.

How would you cover these windows? There is no space in the trim between the windows, and long drapes are out because of the heater.

I was thinking some kind of valance or roman type shade..

The baseboard heat is a hindrance. I would suggest something like these but you can't cover the mechanism in the winter. How about roman shades or blinds?

Hi Christine! It seems like you might have honeycomb or cellular shades, by your reference to "accordion" shades. We have an option that allows blackout and light filtering in the same shade, you can check them out here:

You can drop the top of the shade on the large window, down to the top of the glass on your smaller windows, then drop the top of the shade on the smaller windows down to the top sash for a uniform look.

You might also want to consider, Sheer Shades:

They are a hybrid or sorts, with slats like a faux wood blind and a sheer fabric that runs along the outside. So, even when the slats are open you still get a soft, filtered light and some added privacy. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your suggestions, unfortunately we‘re not replacing either window at this time and the trim on the bay window was taken off so that we can match the other one once complete. We need to be able to block the sun late in the day but want to let in light the rest of the time that’s why I was leaning towards the top down bottom up blinds. I think Roman shades might be the way to go.

Hey There: You have a few options for your window: you can replace the wood shade with white faux wood. This will give you the same operation as you have now but lightens up the room. Or you can go with light filtering honeycomb shades that open bottom-up and top down. A single window covering that is most versatile and adapts to light and privacy. Or you do double roller shades with alternating stripes that also give you privacy or light if needed. Best of Luck.

I didn't have the chance to get to it yesterday, but here is what a roller shade might look like. I think the semi-sheer looks much better here, if you're ok with not having full privacy. (look for solar shades -- they come in different opacity levels, colors and textures.) the thing is, you could buy it long enough to fit the whole window, and choose to mount it at the top or move it down to the lower pane if you change your mind. it will fit either way.
