Comments (31)Tanya, if the email remark was intended or me then no I did not receive one. I wish to apologize for anything I have posted here to offend anyone. I had an extremely long day with lots of pain and I was tired both emotionally and physically. but that is no excuse for being negarice or hurtful to people. I do not wish to create problems so I am going to leave the forum and stay out of things. It was nice meeting you and everyone else and please give Junior a bite of chicken for me along witha scratch and tell Jinxie I said hello. You truly have a wonderful home on golden pond and I hope you enjoy it for years to come. Linda...See MoreDogs and antibiotic shots
Comments (20)I am sorry for your loss. I am not a vet-- and surely all experiences with cancer are not the same. My Grace had cancer. Twice. The first time she declined very very quickly--in a matter of weeks she dropped from 115lb to close to 100. She had a functional adrenal tumor which affects appetite (among other things) so she did eat.. in fact, she had a constant drive for food. A dangerous drive for food-- a few days before her surgery, my father brought me a qt container of vegetable soup-- FROZEN. I walked out to the car with him and when I returned to the house, she'd some how gotten it off the counter, ate through the plastic and ate the frozen vegetable soup. I opted to surgically remove the tumor-- it was a highly risky surgery but she was young and her prognosis was not good without the surgery. She had a 20-30% chance of surviving the surgery and even then, the mortality rate for the 6 months post surgery was high. She made it through all of the odds -- and a year later, the cancer returned. This time I knew immediately. I knew the signs. Surgery wasn't an option so I treated her with a mushroom extract that prevented internal inflammation (which would presumably limit or slow the spread of the cancer). I also treated her with pain pills and anti-anxiety meds (this because the tumor was basically pumping corticosteriods through her body). The vet estimated we'd have a few months. I let Grace tell me when she was ready. I had 1.5 yr with her-- managing her pain and her anxiety. When she again lost a large amount of weight.. and this time stopped eating, I chose to end her struggle. Even the two bouts of cancer in the same dog presented differently each time. The first time, I had no idea she had cancer until it was very far along. The second time I knew immediately. I can't speak to the antibiotic, but it sounds to me as though your dog's systems were shutting down. Sadly, we've all been there with one or more pets. The key is to recognize the signs and limit their suffering. I didnt see you say what kind of cancer she had-- some are very aggressive, some grow very slowly. She could have had cancer for a few months.. or a year. I think now is the time to grieve and heal.. we all want to blame someone or something for our losses but cancer is the enemy you are looking for....See MoreHow do I kill ants without killing dogs?
Comments (6)Diatomaceous Earth will kill all kinds of bugs and is perfectly safe for humans and pets. It is also called fossil flour. We used to use it for the chickens to kill mites - put piles of it around for dusting beds. We use it for ants (can even sprinkle it on counter tops). Works for roaches and bedbugs but fortunately haven't had to test it for those. Also good for pets - ear mites and fleas/ticks. Can be given in pet food for internal pests such as worms. Buy only 'food grade DE', not the stuff they sell for pools....See MoreAnd 3000 pounds of pet food! (pics)
Comments (18)It's fun to see the pictures and see the coons and cats eating together but I never met a coon that I really liked. They are mean and vicious when they want to be and will kill for the sport of it. I have had them raid my chicken house and just cause a melee leaving a wake of dead chickens..night after night...It is very heart breaking to have to endure their viciousness.......once they find your place, they will come until you kill them or there is nothing left for them to kill or eat..they will eat a bit and then go chase another. I have found that they can get into just about anything that a human being can build. I had a Mama duck that decided to build a nest and set on her eggs. When I found her, I tried to secure her as best I could and managed for nearly the whole period of time but before the hatch, they got to her...killed her and tromped through destroying most of the eggs....You can stand there watching them and they will shoot a bird at you they are so reckless...shoot at them and in 5 minutes they will come back and say, let's try that again..............See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
