The daughter to the seller said she really loved and wanted it and I am just not the kind of person to say I saw it first and then make a family mess of all of it. The lady offered me another table I am considering at half the cost making my consideration even more so to go for it. It is another vintage table in wood. Not the darling black and white enamel top. Course I could always paint that on it and put a glass sheet over all. I even have some large tempered glass sheets that might work. I forget their size. And tempered glass can not be cut to fit. The wood table is smaller than it looks It is 48 by 40 and would easily fit where the other half round table was. It is also on wheels and could be rolled over to the couch for one side seating. Four legs in the corner are an issue this way but not as much of an issue and the big center of the first table. I am really not expecting company for dinner. If it has not happened in the 8 1/2 years we have been here it is not likely to happen now. It would also make a nice work table for me behind the chairs and I could put the work table I am now using in the dinning room. It is only 27 inches wide. and the wider table would fit where the old work table is. Length on both is the same. No drawers on other wood table. Lots of thinking to do tonight on if I even want to do this. It can all go right back as it was and just forget it. Photo of the second choice table. Depends upon your interior load bearing walls or whether or not you can add to a room and increase the footprint of your home. In my view, you do not need a "formal" dining room, but if you entertain at all -- even just family or special occasions, it's a good idea to have a very specific dining space that accommodates the size crowd you have -- even if it means seating children at a bar or adjacent drop leaf table -- rather than having only a "dining nook" in and part of either the kitchen or the living room. I like the idea of an "L" shaped great room so the living room guests cannot see the kitchen at work but those guests moving into the dining room and near the dividing cabinet/bar would be able to socialize -- without actually being in the kitchen in the way or getting a close up view of dirty pots and pans or dishes ... because There would be a room dividing cabinet/bar w/overhead cabinets with class doors on both sides. That overhead cabinet with glass doors would hold glass items -- mostly clear drinking glasses but perhaps a cut glass pitcher and/or some colored glass candy dishes and/or candle holders w/candles -- something both useful and decorative. All the kitchen cabinets would have doors solid so you'd not have a constant struggle to keep all cabinets neat enough for displaying what's behind them. A guest powder room could be accessible from a mud room -- with pretty much wall to wall, floor to ceiling cabinets, including a closet for washer and dryer. The mudroom could b e adjacent to the kitchen accessible via a door beside that room dividing cabinet and also lead to a sun room or a porch or a deck or a patio so the entertaining can be indoor/outdoor..

Purchase a canvas mounted on a frame the size G recomended. Using the colors of your theme figure aka incl leftover paint you may have, design a motif including your birthdates and family Initial(s) or other key dates or words like Family and Home among them if you like. You can include a freestyle forms like circles and stars or just do the shapes as a background to your family initial in Gold or Silver metallic? You may know an art teacher or student that could do this for you if that makes it more appealing to you?

I think the space would open up if you removed the wainscot. It is creating a "box" that stops the eye and says, "That's all, folks!" I agree with Suki Kabuki that the ladder shelves must go. They always remind me of college decor, along with milk crate shelves. Consider putting the TV on the wall where the ladder shelves are, floating the sofa facing it and moving the dining table near the window where you now have the TV area. I think you should eliminate one of rugs and only use one at the sofa. The two side tables by the TV are cluttering, but you might use the taller one by a sofa arm if it arrives within and inch of it, up or down. Get yourself sorted out with these issues and post new photos. We can go from there.
