Anyone own a Lee industries sofa?
Comments (22)Prettybutton, that is exactly what I was able to do. The bench I ordered was not carried by Crate. But I have such a good salesman there he knows the folks at Lee, called them and ordered the bench for me (and said he could order anything from them as they are a major vendor) and gave me the sale price on it and also on the customizations I wanted -- castors and nailhead trim. Those weren't on the bench originally so first step was to see if they were possible and then to order them up. At one point I wanted to change the leg style and he called about that as well (I couldn't). It's a pleasure. Obviously, special orders aren't going to be returnable but I know the Lee quality and it's a copy of a bench that's 6 times as expensive. I used the extra fabric he ordered for me when I bought my sofa. I could have gone with one of their leathers (also 25% off) or another fabric. Last year at this time I took advantage of the same sale (mid Sept-mid Oct) to order a sofa and chair. If I need upholstered things I spend time figuring out what I need and wait for this so I can get the customizing at 25% off. I have access to the wholesale market as well and have gone through the showrooms. To order a sofa from one of the Brand names would have doubled the cost and I honestly couldn't see double the quality. Custom is also available here and, of course, if you're going with that from a high end upholsterer it's a whole different game. But again, I just cannot see spending thousands on upholstered furniture which basically depreciates to the Craigslist level the day it's delivered. But that's me and others may not agree. Don't know if every Crate store or salesperson can offers this level of knowledge or service but it's worth a visit if that's possible....See MoreYet another asbestos tile question
Comments (10)I'm fairly familiar with this issue as I worked for an environmental regulatory agency for many years and dealt with asbestos abatement. I've also -- like tens of millions of people -- owned a home with vinyl asbestos tile, and asbestos-containing vinyl flooring. You're right to be cautious, but you also shouldn't be paranoid. From your description, this tile currently poses no hazard...unless you start tearing it up. Professional abatement could be expensive, and it's not necessary. I would suggest that you nail/screw down a new subfloor right over the existing tile, like 3/8" plywood (underlayment grade with no hidden voids), and then put the flooring you want over it. You could both glue and screw down the new subfloor if you want it to be super solid. If the floor is only mildly uneven, the new subfloor will smooth things out. If it's badly uneven, put down some leveling compound and then the subfloor. Yes, this will raise the floor level a little, and you'll need to take out the tub temporarily to make it easier, but this approach will not be that difficult in the long run. If you have more questions after reading this, please email me and I'll try to answer your concerns....See MoreNeed quality, made in America sofa company (like Lee Industries)
Comments (11)Thanks, everyone. Most of the inventory at my parent's shop is Amish-made wood case goods, but I think they did go to High Point years ago when they first got into the business. Going to High Point has been on my wish list for awhile now and would be possible to register with the family shop, but unfortunately I'm nursing an injury that makes walking it impossible right now. Hopefully next year! I like the idea of Lee, but online reviews seem mixed. We did try to get an account with Lee a few years ago, but given the business they do locally through a professional interior designer they were not interested... Not sure if the real reason could have been that the store doesn't have a modern look given the base of business is Amish goods and so they maybe didn't match their target style, but the customers like quality so I thought it'd be a good fit to introduce upholstery on the floor. I'm kind of surprised by so many company names to choose from when looking through old GW forum threads (I started a spreadsheet to try and keep them straight), but it seems like there isn't a clear front runner for reliable (consistent positive reviews) of high quality, hardwood base, 8-way hand tied, great cushions, etc. Or am I missing it?...See MoreYet another question! Comments (59)Heehee! Four kitties with four legs = 16. ;-) I truly appreciate all of the opinions expressed here. Varying thoughts help me think things through from all angles, DebraW - I thought I could put my hands on the document that lists the paint used in this house but I'm not sure where it is at the moment. I'll keep looking and hope to come across it soon. I'm pretty sure the builder used Sherwin Williams brand but I'm not sure of the colors....See MoreRelated Professionals
