Suggestions for a Breezy & Comforting Great Room Color
As mentioned in a previous post, we're building a house for our family of 5. I want something completely different from what I'm used to: warm browns, burgundies, Tuscan yellow, and sage. I've always loved coastal designs and colors and have been wanting to try SW Sea Salt or even BM Quiet Moments (I believe that's what it's called???). The builders painted the entire house Collonade Gray, but I'd love to change the Great Room color, and maybe one bathroom, to something more airy and relaxed. Do you think either of those colors above would look okay with the tile we have? (I have yet to decide if we're going to stain the grout darker or not. It was supposed to be closer to the tile color, but they made a mistake. Either way, dark or light, would Sea Salt, Quiet Moments, or something similar look nice with the color of the tile?) Also, are there other colors similar to the two? I don't want anything too bright, too blue, too green, or even too dark. The wall facing the kitchen has 5 windows (2 large and 3 smallish but still allow a lot of light). On the far end you can see the sliding glass door, but there's another window next to it. Obviously, the house isn't done. The kitchen cabinets are white and the counter top will be white as well. (Quartz in "Frost").

6 years agoI have used BM quiet moments on many occasions; it is a lovely color. Of course you should try a sample in your space as lighting can effect color greatly but it should look nice with your floors or at least a color similar to it.

Comments (4)A toned down jade (mixed with white) would be nice as well...goes with beige, grays, blues, yellows, browns & white. I've picked an amazing muted jade tile for my bath that is gorgeous and I personally don't think you can go wrong. The difference between jade & sage is that jade has more bluish hues. Comments (34)sheila, I love the Shaker Beige! I have seen it mostly at night this week because it's been so dark when I get home from work, but I would describe it as very warm also. It looks almost soft gold in low light, but really gives a nice feeling to this room where we spend most of our time. Really like the Woodlawn Blue too, although that one is taking a little more getting used to. I feel like I have some work to do tying it in to the rest of the house, if that makes sense. For example, when time/budget allows I want to replace the builder carpet on the stairs with a striped runner with a little bit of blue in it. Have seen some DIY ideas online and think we can do this ourselves. (As usual, one thing leads to another!) Comments (12)Check out these chairs by Bernhardt's contract line (i.e. commercial design, but homeowners can buy them too). The fabric is a felted wool with top-stitching and can be ordered in a zillion colors. Plus the handle in the back allows kids to easily drag it around the room wherever they'd like it to go. The handle is shown here in a contrast color, but I've seen them in my trade showroom with the same fabric as the rest of the chair.
