I am in a tornado watch until 7 as well. It is dark at 5:30, but I looked it up (cause I was surprised) and it's just because of the time change. We did have lots of rain just come through, but no lightning or thunder. I think another round is coming sometime later tonight.

Hold on to your hats, we aren't done yet. Our tornado warning is over for now. There were a couple that came down near here in a couple different directions, but we just got a LOT of rain and a little wind. Stay safe.

After I posted I went out onto the back porch to look for one of the cats and heard tornado sirens going off either in town or just over the county line. I called my neighbor and while we were deciding whether or not to go to our basements, the sirens quit. ha. I had the local Channel 5 (out of Cleveland) news on with the weather guy tracking everything and just as predicted, threats were over by 6pm.

We only got a short period of heavy rain too, not much wind. Flood warnings now.

Tornado warning here in NW Pennsylvania, Erie County, was until 7:15 PM. I didn't go in the basement. My daughter lives about 5 miles from me and she and her husband went in their basement. She called to check on me. Just a lot of rain here.

If you don't have one I highly recommend a weather radio or at the very least a weather app on your phone.

We went through that yesterday afternoon and evening. We came out pretty well around here.

There was some storm damage about 10 miles from me. They haven't decided if it was a tornado. The worst thing though was at a house in the city of Erie. Two people had gone into their basement. Rushing water collapsed a section of the foundation and the basement filled with water, drowning them.

Rose, that's so sad. They think they are doing the safe thing by going to the basement, then that happens.

We do have a weather radio in the RV and apps on our phones

Last night, I missed most of 60 Minutes and nearly all of Madame Secretary, due to tornado alerts for a remote part of my viewing area. The entire thing might have been an infomercial for the latest weather forecast/tracing technology. They have a fortune in new "toys" and just wanted to show them off. How many times does one need to SEE what is happening with a storm? Is not just telling people to take shelter enough? And do they actually have a TV in their "safe place" or will they just stay where it is dangerous, so they can hear and see yet more about the approaching storm? It was infuriating!

I grew up in KS and spent many a spring night, under my father's big, heavy workbench in the SW corner of my basement. I take tornados very seriously. But come on - we have sirens for this in most places. One hears the sirens, one heads to the basement or other safe place. Having the weather person on TV talk about it and show it from 40 different angles for 45 minutes, does not make me "safer". Grrrr.....

We don't have sirens, and tornado watches are common here year round, more so in the spring and winter. I would never begrudge meteorologists during their job to keep us safe.

Our safe room is the closet in our master bedroom. It's only a step-in, but gives us a place to go along with the 2 cats. We have a TV just outside the closet and have listened to the ongoing weather reporting from inside the closet.

Therewere no sirens in Edmonton Alberta when I lived there in the late 80s. Many a home was destroyed. And it set down on a trailer park and ripped it to shreds tearing the trailers open like tin cans and many people died. I'll never forget how horrific it was. It was like bombs had struck.

Tornados and trailers are a very bad combination. No one should live in one in an area where tornados are common.

I had no idea there weren't sirens anywhere where tornados happen! We had them in KS in the 1950s and in St Louis and now in KY.

I have an entire protocol when the siren goes off! Yes, a battery powered radio us very useful, if for no other reason than to tell when the threat has passed. Unlike air raid sirens, there is no all clear siren for tornados.

We do get the occasional tornado in my city and I have no problem with tv being interrupted- it's when it's in the far outer regions of the viewing area. Then, it's just annoying when it happens as it doesn't affect the vast majority of viewers. And there is no need to talk for 45 minutes when no tornado had been sighted!

There are sirens in our area, but not close enough where we can hear them. When I was growing up, we could hear them IF the wind was in the right direction. And I am not in a rural area. I am about 30 minutes/miles west of Cleveland. We are about 3/4 of the way to the edge of the viewing area. Having said that, there is a lot of family that the viewing area covers, and I was glad that I was able to keep track of where the storm was in relation to them. There were several places in the area that there was rotation, if not touch down, and straight line winds.

Straight line winds can be as damaging as a tornado.

Absolutely,Cindy! 25 years ago, also in November, we had straight line winds come through here, that took out 3 of our trees, took out a tree behind the neighbor's house and took it up and over the house to deposit it in the driveway. To this day I disagree with what the weather service said. My kids were young, and we had a hard plastic pool for them. DH had stored it behind our storage barn in the back yard. When the storm started and the wind got bad, I saw that pool come in a circular direction from behind the barn around and past my back windows.
