Design Dilemma Lighting Living Room

Need help with lighting in living room, slanted ceiling!!

Hi All,

I need some major advice with things i can do with my living room ceiling in regards to lighting. Currently there are 0 lights and i have 1 wall open, so i am open to ANY lighting ideas! I was looking into sconces, chandeliers, recessed lighting etc. I am all over the place and have no idea what to do.

Size of my living room is 16'9" x 13'4"

The highest point of my ceiling is at 12 ft

The lowest point of my ceiling is at 8 ft

Note, this is an old picture from when i bought the house. This furniture is not here

You could do cans around the perimeter and a chandy over the seating area. Or just perimeter cans and floor and table lamps. I think with a long chain style chandelier, it would look fine hung in the middle regardless of the sloped ceiling as long as it hangs level.

A sconce by the front door would be great. If you go with a chandelier, I'd keep it light and airy; something like this.

I would not paint just the cubby hole without a color plan for the entire space. This way even though you want to paint only the cubby now, it will work for you when/if you move forward on the rest of the room.

Better lighting schemes consist of layered lighting from multiple sources and points. So yes, you should consider both recessed and pendants. Pendants with transparent shades will distribute light 360 degrees. Recessed lighting is distributed in a cone shape and make highlights and reveal shadow areas when used alone. Expect to pay more for this room than you have experienced for your library. Most electricians charge a premium for high work, sloped housings cost more, and, as you probably have already accounted for, rates have increased from years ago.

Thank you for the feedback. I've decided to put up recess lighting on the ceiling without a chandelier. I'm thinking to put up 6 lights in the living room.

Now my question where should the placement of the 6 lights be? Do you think 6 is enough? Thoughts!?
